Prayagraj: In a major move, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has declared the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj as a new district. The decision, taken last week, which led to the formation of the new Maha Kumbh Mela district, was made to streamline the management and administration of the upcoming Kumbh Mela, ensuring smooth operations for the grand religious event scheduled for January 2025.
The newly formed district, known as Maha Kumbh Mela, will operate for four months (121 days), from December 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, encompassing 67 villages across four tehsils. IAS officer Vijay Kiran Anand has been appointed as the District Magistrate (DM) of the Maha Kumbh Mela to oversee its administration.
“I, Ravindra Kumar Mandad, District Magistrate, in continuation of the instructions given in Government’s letter No.-3966 / 9-1-2024-408057 dated 25.11.2024, exercising the powers conferred under Section 2 (th) of the Uttar Pradesh Prayagraj Mela Authority, Prayagraj Act, 2017, hereby issue a notification to declare Mahakumbh Mela District for the organization of Mahakumbh 2025. The boundary of the Mahakumbh Mela District will be as follows. The area of the revenue villages and the entire parade area described in Annexure-I will be included in the Mahakumbh Mela District / Mela Area,” reads the official order as per the news agency ANI report.
Vijay Kiran Anand is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer known for his effective governance and administrative skills. Vijay Kiran Anand, an IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was born in 1979 in Karnataka. A Chartered Accountant (CA) by qualification, he successfully cleared the UPSC exam in 2008, marking the beginning of his distinguished career in public service. Reportedly, he secured All India Rank 32 in the UPSC Civil Services (Main) Examination 2008.
Vijay Kiran Anand’s career commenced with training at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. Over the years, he has held the position of District Magistrate in several districts, including Mainpuri, Unnao, Firozabad, Bijnor, Shahjahanpur, and Varanasi.
This is not Vijay Kiran Anand’s first experience with the Kumbh Mela. He served as the Mela Officer for the Kumbh Mela between 2017 and 2019, gaining significant expertise in its organization. He has also held key positions in departments such as Panchayati Raj, Irrigation, and Basic Education.
