A native of Rajasthan, Kataria graduated from IIT Bombay with a degree in Computer Science. His career took off immediately, landing him a lucrative job with Samsung in South Korea. Despite his enviable position, Kanishak’s true calling lay elsewhere—he dreamed of becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
Kanishak Kataria, a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, has topped the civil services final examination 2018. Inspired by his father, Sanwar Mal Verma, an IAS officer and Director of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department in Rajasthan, Kanishak decided to follow his true calling.
Earlier in 2017, Kanishak left his job and returned to Jaipur with a firm resolve to pass the challenging UPSC Civil Services Examination. With incredible dedication, Kanishak took the UPSC exam in 2019 and succeeded in his first attempt, achieving the All India Rank (AIR) 1. Kanishak’s success was a moment of pride for his family, particularly for his father and his uncle, K.C. Verma, the Divisional Commissioner in Jaipur.
Kanishak Kataria belongs to the Scheduled Caste(SC) category. Speaking of his UPSC Civil Services Result, he successfully cleared the examination with mathematics as his optional subject.
Kanishak Kataria scored 942 in the written examination. Additionally, he scored 179 in the personality test. Overall, he secured 1121 marks out of 2025 marks. Reportedly, he scored Rank 44th in IIT JEE.
At present, he is posted as Joint Secretary in the Department of Personnel (DOP), Government of Rajasthan.
