Roman Saini, the co-founder of the multinational educational technology platform ‘Unacademy,’ has a motivation journey that showcases his extraordinary accomplishments. At just 16, he cleared the tough AIIMS medical entrance exam and earned his MBBS degree by the age of 21. Yet, his ambitions didn’t stop there.

A year after becoming a doctor, he decided to take on one of India’s most challenging exams—the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination (CSE)—and pursued his dream of becoming an IAS officer. At the age of 22, Roman Saini cleared the UPSC-CSE exam and became an IAS officer. Still, his drive for excellence was far from satisfied. Shortly after, he made the bold decision to leave his prestigious civil service position and pursue his next big venture. During his time in the civil services, he also served as a district collector in Madhya Pradesh.

Roman Saini is regarded as one of India’s brightest minds, and his academic journey reflects that. Fueled by a passion for achieving more, Saini transitioned into entrepreneurship after resigning from his IAS position. In 2015, he co-founded Unacademy with Gaurav Munjal and Hemesh Singh. Together, they established Sorting Hat Technologies, the parent company of Unacademy.

Over the past 5–6 years, Unacademy has been one of India’s leading ed-tech companies. It has seen extraordinary growth. Much of this success can be attributed to Roman Saini, a doctor and former IAS officer, who played a pivotal role in transforming Unacademy into a Rs 26,000 crore enterprise.

Through its innovative approach, Unacademy offers affordable resources for UPSC exam preparation, helping thousands of IAS aspirants access high-quality coaching via YouTube. In terms of salaries for 2022, Gaurav Munjal, the CEO, earned Rs 1.58 crore, Hemesh Singh received Rs 1.19 crore, and Roman Saini was compensated with Rs 88 lakhs, according to media reports.
