Success Story: The Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) is one of the toughest examinations in India It comprises two papers 1 and 2. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. JEE (Main) is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the country. Through JEE (Advanced), IITs offer admission into undergraduate courses leading to a Bachelors, Integrated Masters, Bachelor-Master Dual Degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Architecture.

For many aspirants, gaining admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is the ultimate goal. Students dedicate themselves tirelessly, putting in countless hours of hard work to secure a spot at IIT. However, what if we tell an inspiring story of a candidate who cleared JEE Advanced with an All India Rank(AIR) of 99 and left the counselling process?

Well, Mohammad Sahil Akhtar, cleared the IIT-JEE entrance test and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 99 for the JEE Advanced 2023. However, he decided not to join an IIT and dropped out of IIT counselling.

It is reported that Akhtar was preparing for IIT from Class 10th. However, he surprised many by opting to withdraw from the JEE admission process to pursue his dreams at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) instead.

Hailing from Kolkata, Mohammad Sahil Akhtar finished his schooling at the Delhi Public School (DPS) Ruby Park. In April 2023, he appeared for the engineering entrance exam. The budding engineer even started his YouTube channel to guide candidates.

“I am Sahil, a student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. I like physics, space-related stuff and anything mathematical. I also really like playing the keyboard. This channel is a space for me to give some opinions and advices to help people down the line with my experience in STEM examinations, college applications and JEE related things. Feel free to reach out to me on my LinkedIn or my Instagram! I am much less active on Instagram though,” reads the bio of his youtube channel.
