The UPSC exam is considered one of the toughest exams. Most candidates take the UPSC examination after completing their graduation, often succeeding after two to three attempts. Many aspire to secure the prestigious IAS position, which is highly competitive due to the limited number of available seats.
However, even after clearing the examinations and achieving the IAS designation, many find that their passion remains unfulfilled. A notable example is Indian Foreign Service(IFS) officer Vidushi Singh, who made history by qualifying for the UPSC at the remarkably young age of just 21.
Originally from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Vidushi Singh was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. According to her LinkedIn profile, Singh completed her graduation with a BA Honours in Economics from the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, in 2021.
At the age of 21, Vidushi cleared the UPSC examination – a highly competitive examination – on her first attempt, all without any formal coaching. Speaking of her UPSC preparation journey, It is to be noted that it was during her graduation days, that she began her preparation. She laid a strong foundation by reading NCERT textbooks and other resources for basic knowledge. She appeared in a lot of test series and mock exams.
Speaking of her UPSC marks and rank, Vidushi Singh secured All India Rank(AIR) 13th in the UPSC Civil Services(Main) Examination, 2022. She obtained a total of 1039 marks. She secured 855 in the written examination and 184 marks in the personality test.i.e. interview round. She chose economics as her optional subject.
Despite achieving a top rank, Vidushi opted for the IFS instead of IAS or IPS. In a media interview, she explained her decision, revealing that she chose this service to fulfill her grandparents’ dream. They had always wished for her to become an Indian Foreign Service officer and serve India while living abroad.
