Born on June 19, 1977, Smita Sabharwal hails from Darjeeling, West Bengal. Smita, daughter of Army officer Colonel Pranab Das and Purabi Das, became one of the youngest female IAS officers in India. According to the media reports, she cracked the examination reportedly at 23 years old.

IAS officer Smita Sabharwal is renowned as the “people’s officer.” She has served in several locations across Telangana, including Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, and Chittoor. Furthermore, she is also the youngest officer to have been posted at the Chief Minister’s office.

Smita Sabharwal completed her schooling at St. Ann’s High School in Secunderabad(Telangana). Speaking of her college life, she graduated in commerce from St Francis College for Women, a Catholic minority institution which is located in Begumpet, Hyderabad. It is to be noted that she was the All-India topper in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education(ICSE) examination.

Smita Sabharwal cleared the UPSC exam in 2000, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 4. In January 2024, Senior bureaucrat and secretary in Telangana Chief Minister’s Office Sabharwal took charge as member secretary of the TS Finance Corporation. Sharing a post on X(formerly Twitter), the famous IAS officer wrote, “Everything becomes relevant when you put your heart into it. Today I took charge as Member Secretary, TS Finance Commision. My 12th assignment after a series of field postings! Intend to make this one just as productive.”
