New Delhi: ‘Successful people are not gifted; they just work hard, then succeed on purpose’ – Indeed it is rightly said that there are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed. A good teacher is like a candle—it consumes itself to light the way for others and such a person is Alakh Pandey, the Founder and CEO of ed-tech unicorn Physics Wallah (PW). Read his inspirational story.

Meet India’s richest teacher who failed to clear IIT-JEE, now earns Rs…..

Alakh Pandey is considered to be one of India’s richest teachers. Although there is no clear data to support this claim, many may argue that other popular tutors are even wealthier. Alakh Pandey is a popular teacher and entrepreneur and can be considered as the top contender for the title of India’s richest teacher.

A good teacher not only teaches but leads and builds a community of learners. Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching kids what counts is best. Talking on the same lines, Alakh Pandey helps candidates and students of all ages to prepare for competitive examinations such as the Joint Entrance Examination, National Eligibility Entrance Test, CAT, and several others.

Every year, thousands of candidates appear for the competitive examination; however, only a section of people clear the exam. During these tough times, students should not lose hope and must work hard enough to break the shackles. Likewise, Alakh Pandey did not lose the courage after failing the Joint Entrance Examination.

With a net worth of more than Rs 2000 crore reportedly, Alakh Pandey has become a quite big name in the ed-tech industry. Not many know that he wanted to become an actor. Going by the media reports, Pandey was offered Rs 75 crore to join the Indian multinational educational technology Unacademy.

Hailing from Prayagraj, Alakh Pandey embarked on this journey in 2020, alongside Co-Founder Prateek Maheshwari, to make high-quality education accessible to all students in Bharat. Pandey’s dedication and entrepreneurial spirit have garnered recognition, including being named in `Times 40 Under 40“ and receiving the `Teaching Excellence` award by Entrepreneur India. Alakh was also honoured as `Edtech CEO of the Year“ by BW Business World and featured on the cover of Forbes 2023 in their EdTech Special.

Due to his poor financial conditions, he began taking tuition from Class 8. Reportedly, his parents sold their home for his sister and his education. He obtained 91 per cent in class 10th and 93.5 per cent in class 12th. Later, at the age of 22, he dropped out of his engineering college and went back to Allahabad to teach Physics where he earned Rs 5000 annually.

“Padh Lo Chahe Kahin Se Manzil Milegi Yahin Se PW(Physics Wallah) is student’s lifelong learning partner that is democratizing education at scale in India, with a presence spanning online, offline, and hybrid modes, reaching 98% of India`s pin codes.
