Born on September 14, 1954, Shrikant Jichkar was considered the most educated person in Indian history. Yes, you heard it right! He was known to be India’s most qualified person. Born in a Marathi family, Jichkar reportedly has first degrees in medicine – MBBS, and MD from Nagpur. He even remarkably completed a total of 20 university degrees between 1973 to 1990. He earned accolades in medicine, law, journalism, business management, and Sanskrit literature, among others. Not just a scholar but a true genius, he appeared in 42 university examinations during this time, earning numerous gold medals for his exceptional academic performance.
Many of you won’t know that Shrikant Jichkar became the youngest Member of the Legislative Assembly in India. After completing his MBBS and MD degrees from Nagpur, Jichkar pursued degrees in public administration, sociology, economics, Sanskrit, history, English literature, philosophy, political science, and ancient Indian history, culture, and archaeology.
Additionally, he pursued a master’s degree in business administration, and international law, doctor of business management, a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and a doctor of literature in Sanskrit.

Shrikant Jichkar, an exceptionally talented student, received numerous gold medals throughout his academic journey. According to media reports, between 1973 and 1990, he enrolled in 42 university examinations and earned 20 degrees. In 1978, after successfully clearing the UPSC exam, Jichkar was selected to serve as a central civil servant in the Indian Police Service (IPS).
However, in 1980, he resigned from the IPS cadre and cleared the UPSC exam once again, this time becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. Shortly after his appointment, Jichkar ran for office, won the election, and became an MLA. He was soon designated as a minister and took charge of 14 different portfolios.
He even served as the State Minister for the Maharashtra government. From 1980 to 1985, he was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Additionally, he served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1986 to 1992 as a Minister of State.
He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 1992 to 1998. In 1992, Shrikant Jichkar founded the Sàndipani School in Nagpur. Tragically, on June 2, 2004, Jichkar passed away at the age of 49 after his car met with an accident near Kondhali, approximately 50 kilometers from Nagpur.
