Madras High Court denies interim bail to Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji; Allows him shifting to Hospital for bypass surgery

Madras High Court: In the cash-for-jobs scam, in which the Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji, among others, has been accused of accepting bribes from candidates in exchange of appointment to the State Transportation Corporation, the Enforcement Directorate arrested the Minister, the division bench of J Nisha Banu and D Bharatha Chakravarthy, JJ. rejected his plea for interim bail, while permitting him to be shifted to Kauvery Hospital for an emergency bypass surgery.

Soon after his arrest, Senthil Balaji complained of chest pain and was admitted to a hospital where he underwent various tests. Thereafter, he was remanded back to judicial custody by the Sessions Court, while permitting him to continue his medical treatment at the Tamil Nadu Multi Super Specialty Hospital.

His wife also filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that the arrest was made without any notice or summons. Wherein the division bench of M Sundar and R Sakthivel. JJ. agreed to an urgent hearing of the case. This petition will be taken on 22-06-2023.
