“Crisis is part of life and any kind of crisis can be good”

Dear All!!

Glad to say that we are the most energized and committed couple when we are internally motivated by our own values, sense of enjoyment, and growth in short, internal motivation, and not external structure, inspires us to be our best selves. As educationists, we use this approach to keep us going in times of prolonged crisis, such as the continual uncertainty brought on by many circumstances which motivate each other to overcome the crisis. Here are some values which we follow in times of crisis.

Be a compassionate listener: We give each other a safe space to express our fears, concerns, and emotions. Be present and listen actively, show empathy and understanding. Sometimes, simply being there to lend an ear can provide comfort and motivate us to face the crisis.

We validate our feelings: Acknowledge and validate our emotions. So that we know that it is normal and okay to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or scared during a crisis. Validating our feelings helps create a supportive environment and fosters motivation by letting us know we are not alone. We are there for others by offering comfort, understanding, and reassurance. We feel that our feelings are valid. Remind us that we are not alone and that each other is there to support one another.

We offer reassurance and optimism: We provide reassurance and remind each other that we are there for each other. Share optimistic perspectives and focus on the potential for growth and resilience. Our positive outlook can help boost our morale and motivate us to face the challenges ahead, especially in the field of education.

We collaborate on problem-solving: We work together as a team to find solutions and navigate the crisis. Brainstorm ideas, explore different options, and involve each other in decision-making processes. Collaborative problem-solving empowers us and helps us feel motivated and engaged in finding solutions.

Break down tasks into manageable steps: Help each other break down overwhelming tasks into smaller, achievable steps. By breaking things down, we can make the situation more manageable and less daunting. Celebrate each small victory along the way to maintain motivation and a sense of progress.

We provide practical support: Offer practical support to alleviate some of the burdens we may be facing. This could involve assisting with household tasks, managing logistics, or researching resources and information related to the crisis. By easing our load, we can help reduce stress and increase motivation. We support one another and know that we are there for ourselves. Offer help in any way we can, whether it is through lending a listening ear, assisting with tasks, or providing resources.

We encourage self-care: We remind ourselves of the importance of self-care during challenging times. Encourage us to engage in activities that promote well-being, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, or pursuing hobbies. Self-care enhances resilience and motivation by nurturing physical and mental well-being.

Be a source of strength and inspiration: Lead by example and be a source of strength for each other. Demonstrate resilience, determination, and a positive attitude. Share stories of others who have overcome similar crisis to inspire hope and motivation. Our actions and attitude can significantly influence our motivation.

Set realistic goals & foster a sense of unity: Break down the crisis into smaller, manageable goals. Setting achievable targets can help create a sense of progress and accomplishment, boosting motivation along the way. Emphasize that you are all in this together. Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and a collective effort to overcome the crisis. Remind each other of the strength that comes from unity.

Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement & Take care of self-care: We share words of encouragement and remind each other of individual strengths and capabilities. Enjoy each other’s efforts and offer praise when warranted. Encourage each other to prioritize self-care and well-being. Remind everyone to take breaks, engage in activities they enjoy, and practice self-care strategies that help reduce stress and maintain mental and emotional well-being.

Check-ins: Regularly we go out of station or country. We reach out to one another through a simple phone call, or message, which makes a significant difference and shows that we care for each other.

Seek professional help if needed: If the crisis requires professional assistance, encourage each other to seek help from mental health professionals, counsellors, or relevant support services. Provide us with information about available resources and help us access appropriate help.

We celebrate progress and achievements: At many times we recognize and celebrate our progress and achievements specially at times of success, no matter how small. We take the time to acknowledge our efforts and express pride in our resilience and determination. Celebrating milestones helps maintain motivation and fosters a sense of accomplishment. We, most of the time express gratitude for each other’s strength, efforts, and presence in our life. Show appreciation for the ways we have handled the crisis and the support we shared with each other. We offer unwavering support and remind us that we are in this together. Acknowledge and celebrate any progress made, no matter how small. Recognizing achievements, even minor ones, can keep morale high and motivate further action. Remember that each person may respond differently to various motivational approaches. It is essential to be empathetic, understanding, and respectful of individual needs and preferences.

Maintain open communication: Encourage open and honest conversations where everyone can express their concerns, fears, and emotions. Actively listen to each other and validate their feelings. Supporting each other during a crisis is essential for building resilience and overcoming challenges. The crisis also presents opportunities for growth, adaptation, and positive change. They can act as catalysts for innovation, prompting the development of new technologies, systems, and approaches to prevent or respond to similar events in the future. Crisis can also foster a sense of community and solidarity, as we come together to support one another and rebuild our lives.
