KL Deemed to be University has been awarded the prestigious All-India Smart Campus Award under the “Innovation Award for Professional” category at the BEE National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA-2024). The award ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, was attended by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, who served as the Chief Guest.
The Ministry of Power, Government of India, recognized the university for its remarkable contributions to energy conservation, sustainability, and innovative campus practices. This award celebrates KL Deemed to be University’s ongoing efforts to create an energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable campus.
Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma, Vice Chancellor of the university, emphasized that sustainability is not merely an initiative but a core philosophy at KL Deemed to be University. He remarked, “This national award reflects our dedication to building an environmentally responsible campus, setting an example for educational institutions across India. We aim to foster a legacy of environmental stewardship and responsible progress.”
The award was presented to Dr. V. Rajesh, Dean of Planning and Development at KL Deemed to be University, by Shri Srikant Nagulapalli, Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), acknowledging the collective efforts of the institution in sustainable development.
KL Deemed to be University’s sustainability initiatives include conserving 750 m³ of fertile soil, planting over 1,000 trees, and implementing energy management strategies that have led to a 52.58% reduction in water demand. Additionally, the campus has installed a 3.854 MWp solar system, which supplies 48% of its energy needs.
The university’s Planning and Development department played a key role in securing this award, reflecting the leadership’s commitment to sustainability. This honor adds to the university’s growing list of accolades, including the Academia Excellence Award (2024), Green Urja & Energy Efficiency Awards, and the State Energy Conservation Award (2022), further solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable energy management within the academic sector.
