The Kerala High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed seeking direction commanding the respondents to see that the Kanjiramattom Railway Station is available to passengers with all existing facilities.

The Petitioner further prayed for the following relief:-

“ii) Issue a writ of mandamus or other appropriate writ, order or direction directing the respondents not to discontinue Kanjiramattom Railway Station.

iii) Issue a writ in the nature of mandamus or other appropriate writ order or direction directing the respondents to provide travelling facility from Kanjiramattom Railway Station.”

In response to the notice issued by the High Court, a counter affidavit dated 07.06.2019 has been filed on behalf of respondents by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, Commercial Branch, Thiruvananthapuram Division. In the counter affidavit, the deponent has specifically stated that the Railways have no intention to close down the Railway Station.

In view of the above statement made on behalf of the Southern Railway, by its Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, the Division Bench of Chief Justice A.J.Desai and Justice V.G.Arun nothing survives for consideration in the petition.
