Karnataka High Court: The Court while deliberating over a plea to put a stop on two roadshows that are to be held on 6th and 7th May respectively by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; dismissed the same upon recording the submissions of the State and the Police regarding the plans and precautionary measures that will be put on place for the roadshow.
As Karnataka gears up for its Legislative Assembly Elections that are to be held on 10-05-2023, the election campaigning of the political parties has gained full momentum. Current ruling party, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is leaving no stone unturned for its election campaign and Prime Minister Modi's upcoming Bengaluru roadshow is one of most anticipated events.
However, owing to inconvenience caused to public during roadshows, a plea was filed in the High Court seeking to ban all political roadshows.
The Court while discussing this plea, observed that elections are treated as festive celebrations and roadshows are a part of the country's election process. The Court further stated that political rallies and roadshows also serve the purpose to publicise information about the election process to the public.
