The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made an major announcement declaring the change in the examination structure in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025, the change made is that the format will revert back to its original format pre-covid.

From the year 2025, the Section B of the exam papers for both Engineering (BE/BTech, Paper 1) and Architecture/Planning (BArch/Bplanning, Paper 2) will not include optional questions anymore, in the 2021 format to compensate the academic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic it was incorporated.

Previously, students could choose to answer 5 out of 10 questions in Section B, over the 90 questions, however, JEE Main 2025 will revert to the original examination structure where each subject will include 25 questions, and five mandatory questions in Section B for all three subjects.

The optional questions were incorporated as a temporary measure during the COVID-19 crisis. Currently, with the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the end of the pandemic as a public health emergency in May 2023, the decision has been made to stop the current format and revert back to its original.

The JEE Main 2025 examinations will continue to be held twice a year, serving as the door of opportunities for admissions to undergraduate engineering, planning, and architecture courses in prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and it will also act as the qualifying test for JEE Advanced.

NTA also announced that the registration process should be expected to start soon and has advised the candidates to regularly visit the official JEE Main website (jeemain.nta.ac.in).
