New Delhi: Sanjeev Hans, an IAS officer from the 1997 batch of the Bihar cadre, is currently facing scrutiny due to allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering. Recently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids on the properties of Sanjeev Hans. During search operations, 13 kg silver bullion worth approximately Rs 11 lakh, unexplained cash of Rs 87 lakh, and 2 kg gold bullion and jewellery worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore were recovered and seized. The search operations at 5 locations across the three cities of Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata were held on September 10, 11, and 12 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

Who is Sanjeev Hans?
Sanjeev Hans, a native of Punjab, is a divisional commissioner-ranked officer in Bihar. He has held several high-level positions, including District Magistrate in various districts of Bihar. Hans was significantly influenced by his father, who was an officer in the State Administrative Service (PCS). Wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps, Hans worked hard to achieve his goal. He successfully passed the UPSC exams and joined the IAS. Prior, Hans earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He began his administrative career as the SDM of Banka district in Bihar.
However, the desire for wealth and the temptation to gain more money led him into corruption and unethical practices. The ED conducted raids on the premises of IAS Sanjeev Hans and his close associates. In 2023, a Bihar Court had ordered the Patna police to register a rape case against senior IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former RJD MLA Gulab Yadav in connection with the alleged rape of a woman at a Delhi hotel in 2021. According to a report in ANI, IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former MLA Gulab have been accused of gang rape at gunpoint of a woman.
During his time as Principal Secretary of the Energy Department and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), Hans allegedly oversaw the Smart Meter Installation Campaign in Bihar. Media Reports suggest that during this period, he accepted a Mercedes car as a bribe from the company responsible for the smart meter installations.
