1 INS Sumedha at Alexandria, Egypt to participate in ‘Exercise Bright Star- 23’
INS Sumedha to visit Port Alexandria, Egypt on 06 Sep 2023 to participate in ‘ Exercise Bright Star- 23 ‘ reached up. There will be participation of 34 countries in this multinational exercise of the three forces. It is the largest ever joint military exercise in the Middle East and North Africa region. Exercise Bright Star- 23 is to be conducted in two phases. The Harbor phase includes a wide range of activities such as cross-deck visits, exchange of professionals, sporting fixtures and interactions for planning and conduct of the sea phase. The sea phase will involve complex and high intensity exercises, including cross deck flying, anti-surface and anti-air exercises including live weapon firing exercises. This is the first participation of the Indian Navy in Exercise Bright Star, which will also see participation of naval ships from other friendly foreign navies. Commander M.C. INS Sumedha, an indigenously built Saryu class , under the command of ChandeepThe third of the Navy Offshore Patrol Vessels (NOPVs) , which is capable of long endurance, is fitted with necessary weapons, sensors and has an integrated helicopter take-off capability.
2 India showcases PM Gatishakti National Masterplan at Asian Development Bank’s 2023 Conference on Regional Cooperation and Integration
India showcased the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan at the ‘ 2023 Regional Cooperation and Integration Conference: Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Integration through Economic Corridor Development (ECD)’ organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Tbilisi , Georgia . The conference, held from September 5 to 7, 2023, saw the participation of more than 30 member countries, including senior officials from ADB developing member countries responsible for ECD, development partner agencies, and representatives of regional cooperation organizations. The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary (Logistics), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
3 MoU for Aerospace Education and Research between Gati Shakti University (GSV) Vadodara of Indian Railways and Airbus
Gati Shakti University (GSV) of Indian Railways in Vadodara and Airbus to further strengthen the Indian aviation sector Signed a memorandum of understanding. In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Mr. Remy Maillard (Chairman and Managing Director, Airbus India and South Asia) and Professor Manoj Chaudhary (Vice Chancellor, Gati Shakti University) at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and IT, who is also the first Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti University. Recently, Airbus and Tata announced a partnership to design, innovate, manufacture and develop the C-295 aircraft in India at Vadodara in Gujarat. Airbus is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft and helicopters, Is a leading manufacturer of defense and space equipment. Gati Shakti University (GSV) Vadodara was established by an Act of Parliament in 2022 to produce best-in-class manpower and talent for the entire transportation and logistics sectors. This central university is sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India and the Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnav is its first Vice-Chancellor.
4 Mexico’s Supreme Court decriminalizes abortion throughout the country
Mexico ‘s Supreme Court has legalized abortion in the country . The court said in a statement that the system that punishes abortion is unconstitutional because it violates women’s human rights. In a similar arrangement, it was said that abortion is not a crime and women can get abortion done without fear of punishment in the country. This decision has come after two years. The court said the portion of the federal penal code that outlawed abortion is no longer in effect. No woman or health worker will now be punished for abortion. Earlier in 2007, abortion had been legalized in 12 cities of 32 states of Mexico, including Mexico City.
5 Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute scientists succeed in decoding complete genome of oil sardine fish
A team of scientists from the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi , Kerala , has succeeded in decoding the complete genome of the oil sardine fish found in India. This fish is consumed on a large scale. It has been decoded by a group of researchers led by Principal Scientist Dr. Sandhya Sukumaran . Director of the institute, Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan said that the decoded genome would help in understanding the biology and evolution of the oil sardine fish. Along with this, improvement in management can also be brought for conservation and sustainable use of fish.
6 India’s first UPI ATM
Japan ‘s Hitachi Company (HitachI Company) in collaboration with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched the first UPI-ATM in the form of White Label ATM (WLA) . In this, customers can easily withdraw cash from ATMs through UPI. This ATM was used for the first time at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai on 5 September 2023. The company believes that with this facility, customers can now easily withdraw cash through ATM.
7 SBI Card introduces ‘SimpliSave Merchant SBI Card’

8 Center approves 10% reservation for government school students in medical education
The Union Home Ministry has approved Puducherry ‘s proposal to implement 10% horizontal reservation for students pursuing undergraduate medical education from government higher secondary schools . This reservation policy, which will come into effect with immediate effect, will benefit students who have qualified the NEET exam and have completed their education from government schools starting from standard one.
9 Delivery of second ACTCM barge, LSAM 16 (Yard 126)
MSME, M /s Suryadeept Projects Pvt. Ltd., Thane, for the construction and delivery of eleven ammunition barges providing transportation, embarkation and disembarkation facilities of ammunition for Naval ships, in line with the “ Atmanirbhar Bharat ” initiative of the Government of India . The contract was concluded with. LSAM 16 (Yard 126), the second barge of the series , has been handed over to the Indian Navy in the presence of CMDE MV Raj Krishna, COY (MBI) on 06 Sep 23. The barge is built under the classification rules of the Indian Shipping Register (IRS) with a service life cycle of 30 years.

11 Odisha: GI tag for Rayagada shawls and black cumin rice of Koraput
Kapaganda, the hand-woven shawl of the Dongria Kondh , a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) of Rayagada district in Odisha , is all set to get the Geographical Indication (GI) tag . The embroidered shawls, considered masterpieces of traditional craftsmanship, are gifted by the tribe to guests as a token of their appreciation. Recognizing its cultural importance, the Niyamgiri Dongriya Kondh Weavers Association (NDKWA) had applied for GI tag for Kapaganda in collaboration with the Directorate of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institutes. The GI authority, which functions under the jurisdiction of the central government, has officially advertised the shawls to receive the GI tag, provided no objection is raised within the next three months. While ‘ Koraput Kalajeera ‘ rice from Koraput district , often called the ‘ Prince of Rice ‘, has obtained Geographical Indication (GI) status.
12 Rajesh Nambiar, MD of Cognizant India, has been appointed as the chairperson of NASSCOM.
Indian IT and technology trade body Nasscom announced the appointment of Cognizant India Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Nambiar as its new chairperson. Nambiar will replace Ananth Maheshwari, former president of Microsoft India. Nambiar takes on the new role from his previous role as the successor to former Microsoft India President Ananth Maheshwari. Nambiar will continue to work with President Debjani Ghosh, NASSCOM’s Executive Council, industry and government to strengthen India’s position as a global technology hub while navigating the current volatile macro environment. The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is the apex body for the Indian technology industry. It is a non-profit organization that was established in 1988.

14 India unveils world’s first AI-powered anti-drone system – Indrajal by Grain Robotics
Hyderabad -based robotics company Grene Robotics developed Indrajal, an innovative autonomous anti-drone system powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The Indrajal system is the first of its kind in India and is designed to be deployed at critical facilities such as nuclear installations and oil rigs as well as large Designed to protect areas, potentially entire cities, from various drone threats. Indrajal has a modular design similar to Lego blocks, consisting of 12 different layers of technology, all powered by artificial intelligence. It provides 360-degree protection with real-time capabilities to detect, identify, classify, track, and neutralize threats.
15 Vanuatu Parliament elects Sato Kilman as Prime Minister
Vanuatu ‘s parliament elected Sato Kilman as the country’s new prime minister after a court upheld a vote of no confidence in his predecessor, who sought closer ties with US allies amid Sino-US rivalry in the Pacific Islands . Kilman, a former prime minister and leader of the People’s Progressive Party, was elected prime minister on 27/23 by parliamentarians in a secret ballot. Kilman received a total of 27 votes, while Kalasakau received 23 votes. Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands, of which 16 are inhabited.
