1 Indian Army created special technical unit ‘STEAG’
Indian Army has formed a specialized technical unit ‘ Signals Technology Evolution and Adaptation Group ‘ (STEAG) to work on research and development of future communication technologies like Artificial Intelligence, 5G, 6G, Machine Learning, Quantum Technology etc. for defense applications . Will work. It is noteworthy that communication is an important component of military operations. In the rapidly evolving technologies for the battlefield, the side that has better communication technology and the ability to connect various components to share information will have an edge over its opponent.
2 Public Health Foundation of India overtakes Harvard to take second place in global ranking of public health schools
In the inaugural ranking of schools of public health , the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) has been ranked second globally, behind the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine . The ranking is part of a report titled ‘A new model for ranking schools of public health: Public Health Academic Ranking’ published in the International Journal of Public Health. The aim of this project is to create an international bibliographic university ranking system for academic public health. PHFI was launched in the year 2006 by former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. It is a public-private initiative involving Indian and international academics, governments, agencies and civil society groups.
3 Raksha Mantri Trophy awarded for the best Armed Forces Medical Services for the year 2022 and for the excellent work of the Best Command Hospitals
Defense Minister’s Trophy for the Best Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and Best Command Hospitals for the year 2022 was presented by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services and Senior Colonel Commandant, Army Medical Corps Lieutenant General Daljit Singh on March 19, 2024 in New Delhi. . Command Hospital (Southern Command), Pune was awarded as the best and Command Hospital (Central Command), Lucknow as the second best command hospital for the year 2022. Raksha Mantri Trophy was instituted in the year 1989 with the objective of recognizing excellence in healthcare services provided by the Armed Forces Hospitals of AFMS and to promote a spirit of healthy competition among them.
4 Pandavula Gutta and Ramgarh Crater designated as geo-heritage sites
Pandavula Gutta , an ancient geological feature that predates the Himalayan Mountains, is officially designated as the only geo-heritage site in Telangana . Additionally, the Government of Rajasthan designates Ramgarh Crater in Baran district as a geo-heritage site . This recognition is an important milestone in preserving the geological heritage of the region. Ramgarh Crater in Rajasthan was created by a meteor impact about 165 million years ago . This crater with a diameter of 3 kilometers provides essential ecosystem facilities that contribute to the ecological balance and biodiversity of the associated area. Recognized as the Ramgarh Conservation Reserve under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, the Ramgarh Crater has been protected to preserve its unique ecological and cultural heritage.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar introduced a new mobile application called ‘ Know Your Candidate ‘ (KYC). This app will enable voters to find out whether any election candidate has any criminal record in their constituency.

7 Guyana signs agreement to buy Indian-made Dornier aircraft
The Indian defense industry is expanding its reach to the Caribbean region. The Guyana Defense Force (GDF) plans to purchase two aircraft from India with a $23.27 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of India . Guyana will acquire two Dornier 228 aircraft manufactured by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). An agreement was signed between the Finance Minister of Guyana and the Deputy GM of Exim Bank.

Scientists recently discovered a giant volcano on Mars called Noctis , located on the eastern edge of Tharsis, a broad regional topographic bulge. The volcano is 9,022 meters high and 450 kilometers wide, making it about 200 meters taller than Mount Everest. The discovery, made possible by data from a suite of missions including NASA’s Mariner 9, Viking Orbiters 1 and 2, Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Odyssey, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and ESA’s Mars Express, reveals a hidden geological wonder.
