1 India keen to host the annual conference of the International Institute of Administrative Services – IIAS on February 2025​

India has expressed its interest to host the annual conference of the International Institute of Administrative Services – IIAS in Kochi , Kerala in February 2025 . This information was given by V Srinivas, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, during the virtual meeting of the Administrative Council of IIAS. IIAS is a confederation of States, National Sections and Academic Research Centers established in 1930 . Its headquarter is in Brussels , the capital of Belgium . 30 member countries, 18 national sections, more than 50 IIAs from universities and institutes of public administration will participate in the annual conference. In this, future administrative reforms will be discussed.

2 TRAI directs access providers to deploy AI-based system to deal with unsolicited commercial communications​

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued directives to all access providers to mandate the deployment of UCC_Detect, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based system. The objective of this system is to trace, identify and take action against senders of commercial communications who are not registered under the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018 (TCCCPR-2018). Unregistered Tele Marketers (UTMs) These unregistered entities, known as SMS, use 10-digit mobile numbers to send commercial communications through messages or calls. The UCC_Detect system is capable of adapting to new signatures, patterns and techniques employed by UTM. Access providers have also been directed to share intelligence with other access providers using DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platform. All Access Providers are required to comply with these directions and provide updated status of action taken within 30 days.

3 New Sub-Office of Reserve Bank of India​

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set up a sub-office in Kohima , the capital of Nagaland . has taken a significant step towards strengthening its presence in North East India by opening With this move, RBI aims to expand its reach in the region and better serve the financial needs of the people. Additionally, the central bank has announced its intention to set up an office in Itanagar, demonstrating its commitment to enhance its operations in the Northeast. Deputy Governor Michael Debabrata Patra inaugurated the sub-office in Kohima, marking a milestone in RBI’s efforts to increase its footprint in the Northeast. The opening of this office will facilitate engagement of the central bank with various stakeholders and promote financial inclusion in the region. Presently, RBI has presence in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland.

4 3D Scanning and JATAN Virtual Museum Builder Software​

An MoU has been signed between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Union Ministry of Culture to complete 3D digitization of all museums under administrative control for better conservation of artefacts . 3D Scanning in the Digitization Process It refers to the analysis of a real-world object or environment to collect three-dimensional data of its shape and possibly its shape. The collected data is then used to create a digital 3D model. 3D digitization will be done using JATAN Virtual Museum Builder software, designed and developed by Human Center Design and Computing Group, Center for Development of Smart Computing, Pune, Maharashtra. JATAN is a digital collection management system for Indian museums. It is a client server application with features like image cropping, watermarking, unique numbering, management of digital objects with multimedia representation. It can create 3D virtual galleries and provide public access through web, mobile or touch screen kiosks.

5 SAI20 Summit held in Goa​

The SAI20 Summit under India’s G20 Presidency began in Goa under the leadership of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India . Summit Blue Economy and Responsible AI focused on setting priorities, encouraging cooperation and knowledge sharing among Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) (India’s SAI is the CAG). SAI20 priority areas include “Blue Economy” and “Responsible Artificial Intelligence” which represent the opportunities and concerns of the new era. These areas underline the need for genuine collaboration among SAIs. Close collaboration among SAIs is essential for knowledge sharing and capacity building. The Center of Excellence in Blue Economy has been set up at SAI India’s International Center for Environmental Auditing and Sustainable Development (iCED). It aims to create a center of excellence that promotes research and acts as a catalyst for knowledge sharing and capacity building among SAIs.

6 The fourth vessel of the Survey Vessels (Large) Project of M/s L&T ‘Sanhodhak’ was launched at Kattupalli.​

‘ Modifier ‘ , the fourth of the four ships of the Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) project being built by L&T/GRSE for the Indian Navy, was launched at Kattupalli, Chennai . The ship named ‘Modifier’, which means ‘ researcher ‘‘, indicating the ship’s primary role as a survey vessel. As per the construction strategy, the first ship will be built at GRSE, Kolkata and construction of the remaining three ships till the outfitting stage has been sub-contracted to M/s L&T Shipbuilding, Kattupalli. The first three ships of the project, Sandhyak, Direkthar and Ikshak, were to be launched in December, 2021, May, 2022 and November, 2022 respectively. These new generation hydrographic survey vessels, measuring 110 meters in length and 16 meters in breadth, will replace the existing Sandhyak class vessels and will be equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic instruments to collect oceanographic data. They will conduct coastal and deep water surveys, collect oceanographic and geophysical data and act as hospital ships during emergencies.

7 Patterson Joseph wins RSL Christopher Bland Award 2023​

Actor-writer Patterson Joseph has won the RSL Christopher Bland Prize 2023 for his debut novel ‘ The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho ‘. This is the 5th year of this award. The RSL Christopher Bland Prize is an annual prize awarded to a debut author aged 50 or over for their first published work of fiction or non-fiction. The award carries a cash prize of 10,000 Pound Sterling or approximately Rs 10 lakh. The award was instituted in 2018 in memory of British politician Sir Christopher Bland .

10 Child rights advocate Lalitha Natarajan wins 2023 Iqbal Masih Award​

Chennai- based lawyer and activist Lalitha Natarajan has won the 2023 Iqbal Christ Award of the US Department of Labor for eradicating child labour . Natarajan was presented the award by Consul General Judith Ravin at a ceremony at the US Consulate General in Chennai on 30 May. Natarajan has worked throughout her career as an advocate and activist to apply a rights-based approach to child labor.

11 The 22nd Law Commission of India invites ideas and suggestions from the public for Uniform Civil Code​

22nd Law Commission of India Uniform Civil Code Ideas and suggestions are invited from people for Interested individuals and recognized religious organizations have been asked to send their suggestions within 30 days. The Ministry of Law and Justice has said that the 21st Law Commission had reviewed the subject, in which public interest was seen. After more than three years have elapsed since the issue of the consultation paper on family law reforms, the 22nd Law Commission has decided to exchange views on it. The tenure of the 22nd Law Commission has been extended till August 31, 2024. The 22nd Law Commission was notified on 24 February 2020. The term of the current 22nd Law Commission of India was to end on February 20, 2023, but with the extension of the term, it will now end on August 31, 2024. The Chairman of the 22nd Law Commission is Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi (Retd.).

12 Two-day W20 meeting under G-20 begins in Mahabalipuram, Chennai​

The two-day Women’s W-20 meeting under India’s G-20 chairmanship began in Chennai . Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the meeting through virtual medium. Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani will also address the meeting. Dr. Sandhya Purecha, President of W-20 said that more than one lakh women from different fields have been added to W-20 so far. 16 Quitas Holdings returns NBFC license​

18 280-member Indian contingent for Special Olympics Summer Games leaves for Berlin

A 280-member Indian contingent, including 198 athletes , has left for Berlin in Germany to participate in the Special Olympics World Summer Games . Earlier, the team participated in the training camp of the Sports Authority at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. More than seven thousand athletes from 190 countries are participating in these world games. The Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held from June 17 to June 25 . Indian athletes will compete in 16 different events. The Sports Ministry has sanctioned more than seven crore rupees for participation in these Special Olympic Games.
