1 India has now been removed from the UN Secretary-General’s report on children and armed conflict as a result of efforts made by the central government to better protect children.​

Alleged recruitment and exploitation of youth by armed groups in Jammu and Kashmir ; Detention of youth by Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir for alleged links with armed organizations or on grounds of national security; reports of children allegedly being killed and maimed by the use of pellets by the Indian armed forces; India has been mentioned in the UN Secretary-General’s report on children and armed conflict since 2010 due to cross-LoC firing and shelling by unknown criminals, armed groups and unknown criminals in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Lake Chad Basin, with Nigeria, Pakistan and the Philippines and other countries was being done. The Government of India was constantly engaged in efforts to exclude the name of its country from this list. A technical team from the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General visited India on 27-29 July 2022. Subsequently, in November 2022, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, organized a workshop aimed at strengthening child protection in Jammu and Kashmir with the participation of the United Nations. All statutory service delivery structures like Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board have been set up under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015. India’s name has been removed from the 2023 report as a result of efforts made to better protect children .

Seven distinctive products of Uttar Pradesh , famous for its rich cultural heritage and traditional crafts, have recently been given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry based in Chennai . been granted‘ Amroha Dholak ‘, ‘ Mahoba Gaura Stone Handicraft ‘, ‘ Mainpuri Tarkashi ‘, ‘ Sambhal Horn Craft ‘, ‘ Baghpat Home Furnishings ‘, ‘ Barabanki Handloom Products ‘ and ‘ Kalpi Handmade Paper ‘ are the products that have been given Geographical Indication.

  1. Amroha Dholak:
    • The Amroha Dholak is a musical instrument made of natural wood .
    • Mango, jackfruit and teak wood is most suitable for its construction .
    • Animal skin, usually goat skin, is used to cover it .
  2. Baghpat Home Furnishing:
    • Baghpat and Meerut are well known for their exclusive handloom home furnishing products .
    • Cotton yarn is used in the weaving process, which is mainly done on looms.
  3. Barabanki Handloom Products:
    • There are more than 50,000 weavers and 20,000 looms in Barabanki and its surrounding areas.
    • The annual revenue of the Barabanki cluster is estimated to be Rs 150 crore.
  4. Kalpi Handmade Paper:
    • Kalpi is known for the manufacture of handmade paper.
    • While this craft was first introduced in the 1940s by Gandhian Munnalal “Khaddri” , its roots may go back much further into the history of Kalpi.
  5. Mahoba Gaura Stone Handicrafts:
    • Mahoba Gaura stone handicraft represents the unique stone craft of Mahoba.
    • The stone used in this , which is scientifically known as ‘Pyro flight stone’, is a soft and shiny white colored stone mainly found in this region.
  6. Mainpuri Tarkashi:
    • Mainpuri Tarkashi is a popular art and in this brass wire is inlaid on wood.

3 Canada’s Open Work Permit Stream for H-1B Visa Holders​

Canada plans to “ create an open work-permit stream ,” allowing up to 10,000 US H-1B visa holders to work in Canada . The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa that enables US companies to hire foreign workers with specialized expertise. Applicants accepted under this program will receive open work-permits for up to three years, giving them the flexibility to work for any employer in Canada. The move is expected to benefit a large number of Indian tech professionals who have been affected by the recent layoffs at major US tech companies.

4 Union Cabinet approves introduction of the National Research Foundation Bill, 2023 in the Parliament to strengthen the research ecosystem in the country​

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today gave its approval for introduction of the National Research Foundation (NRF) Bill, 2023 in the Parliament . Bill approved to set up National Research Foundation (NRF) Will pave the way for The Foundation will seed, develop and encourage research and development (R&D) and promote a culture of research and innovation in universities, colleges, research institutes and research and development (R&D) laboratories across the country. The Bill, once approved by Parliament, will set up an apex body called the NRF to provide high-level strategic direction to scientific research in the country in line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP). The total estimated cost of this apex body would be Rs 50,000 crore over a period of five years (2023-28).

5 Aurangzeb Lane in New Delhi’s Lutyen’s Zone will now be named – APJ Abdul Kalam Lane​

The New Delhi Municipal Council has given its approval to the proposal to rename Aurangzeb Lane as APJ Abdul Kalam Lane in Lutyen’s Zone . About eight years ago there was a proposal to rename Aurangzeb Road , which was approved but the name of the nearby Aurangzeb Lane was not changed. Aurangzeb Lane connects Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road to Prithvi Raj Road. Now it has been approved to change its name. The Council in one of its meetings has also approved the proposal to develop Gol Market as a museum. This museum will be developed at a cost of Rs 21 crore 66 lakh. A subway will also be built near the museum on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg and parking will be developed on the vacant land near Bhai Bir Singh Marg. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

6 Shriann Gaan – Abundance in millets video released​

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the release of the video of ShreeAnn Gaan – Abundance in Millets . In a tweet, he said that the video is very creative and will inspire people to adopt SriAnn for a healthy life. The video is produced by Grammy Award winner and Indian-American singer Falguni Shah . The song has lyrics in both Hindi and English and aims to raise awareness of ShriAnn . To promote millets, the year 2023 has been declared as the International Millet Year. Apart from the Food and Agriculture Organization and the governing bodies of the United Nations, this proposal of India Approval has also been given in the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly .

7 Philippines approves renewed air services agreement with India at 5th Joint Bilateral Cooperation Commission meeting​

At the fifth meeting of the India-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in New Delhi , External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar welcomes the approach of Philippine Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo on issues of trade, defense cooperation, the need for stability in the Indo-Pacific region and inclusive pluralism . Dr. Jaishankar expressed confidence that the meeting would yield positive results. Philippines Foreign Minister Manalo said that India is a key partner of the Philippines in science, technology and space cooperation. He also said that the movement of Indian diaspora in the Philippines has increased in the last five years due to commercial flights. Mr. Manalo said that the Philippines has approved a new air service agreement with India .

On the occasion of International MSME Day , Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSME celebrated ‘ Entrepreneurial India-MSME Day ‘. 9 National Exit Examination​

The National Medical Commission has recently announced the National Exit Test , which will function as a two-stage medical licensure examination and will complement the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Post Graduate (NEET). PG) . The first batch of National Exit Test (NExT) will consist of students admitted to MBBS course in the year 2019. National Medical Commission is a statutory body in India which was established by the government in the year 2019 to replace the National Medical Council of India (MCI).

10. Aadhaar Authentication for Birth and Death Registration​

The Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed the Registrar General and Census Commissioner to use Aadhaar authentication for birth and death registration after getting authorization from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology . Registrars General appointed under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act will now be able to voluntarily verify Aadhaar numbers given in reporting forms for births and deaths. The purpose of this authentication process is to establish the identity of the children, parents, and spouse etc. The Registrar General and Census Commissioner is a government post responsible for overseeing the registration of important events such as births, deaths and marriages. It plays an important role in maintaining accurate demographic data and conducting the national census.

11 The number of bald eagles in the wild has quadrupled since 2009.​

The American bald eagle ( the national bird of the US since 1782 ) was removed from the endangered species list in 2007 . Since then their population has continued to grow in what is considered one of the greatest success stories in the history of conservation. A 2021 report by the US Fish and Wildlife Service revealed that the number of bald eagles in the wild has quadrupled since 2009. The scientific name of the Bald Eagle is Haliaeetus leucocephalus . The bald eagle’s natural range covers most of North America, including most of Canada, the entire continental US, and northern Mexico. It is the only sea eagle found in North America. The US ban of dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT) in 1972 was an important step in protecting bald eagles and other wildlife species from the harmful effects of this pesticide. DDT is a pesticide used in agriculture. Some countries outside the US still use DDT to control the mosquitoes that spread malaria.

12 Reduction of TCS in International Credit Card Expenses under LRS​

Government of India has decided to put on hold the Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS), withdrawing its earlier decision to include international credit card spends outside India . This means that Tax Collected at Source/TCS will no longer be applicable on such transactions , The government has also extended the deadline for implementing the higher proposed Tax Collected at Source (TCS) rates, from July 1 to October 1, 2023. The limit of Rs 7 lakh per person per financial year for TCS on all Liberalized Remittance Scheme payments will still apply, which means that no TCS will be levied on remittances up to Rs 7 lakh. Beyond this limit, separate rates of TCS will be prescribed depending on the purpose of the remittance. TCS is the tax payable by a seller, which he collects from the buyer at the time of sale of certain goods or services. TCS is governed by section 206C of the Income Tax Act, which specifies the goods or services on which TCS is applicable and also specifies its rate.

13 Special assistance scheme to states for capital investment launched​

The Ministry of Finance has launched a special assistance scheme aimed at increasing capital expenditure by states in India . The scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2023-24, has attracted attention for its significant impact on capital investment proposals and the sectors that stand to benefit from it. Finance Ministry has allocated Rs 56,415 crore for 16 states in the current financial year.Capital investment proposals of Rs. This substantial allocation reflects the commitment of the government to promote growth and development in various sectors across the country. The Scheme of Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment was unveiled in the Union Budget as a means to increase capital expenditure by states. Under this scheme, a total interest-free loan of Rs 1.3 lakh crore is provided to the states during the financial year. It aims to empower states and support their initiatives for infrastructure development and regional progress.

14 DRDO organizes ‘Anusandhan Chintan Shivir’ to encourage Defense R&D in industry and academia​

Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) organized a ‘ Anusandhan Chintan Shivir ‘ on June 27, 2023 in New Delhi with an aim to encourage Defense Research and Development within industry and academia . Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan was the chief guest at the event. A list of 75 technology related priority areas was released on the occasion . The list, identified by DRDO, is divided into 403 technology categories, which expand to 1,295 current and future technology development tasks.

16 India’s first hydrogen powered train will run from Jind district of Haryana​

The much-awaited hydrogen train of Indian Railways will leave from Jind in Haryana by next year . This was announced by Shobhan Choudhary, General Manager (GM) of Northern Railway during his visit to Jind district of Haryana. Hydrogen trains basically run on hydrogen fuel cells. These fuel cells combine oxygen and hydrogen to create electricity that drives the train’s motors. This will be India’s first hydrogen train. The first hydrogen fueled train will run between Jind and Sonipat .

18 Launched a six-day rally called 18 Rani Durgavati Gaurav Yatra

Recently, the Madhya Pradesh government launched a six-day rally called Rani Durgavati Gaurav Yatra to remember the life and legacy of 16th century queen Durgavati , who fought against the Mughals. Born in the year 1524 in the Chandela dynasty of Mahoba (present-day Uttar Pradesh, near the border of Madhya Pradesh), Rani Durgavati was a symbol of India’s independence. The Chandelas were known for building the famous Khajuraho temples in the 11th century . Durgavati was married to Dalpat Shah, son of the Gond king Sangram Shah. After the death of her husband in the year 1550, she ruled the Garha-Katanga kingdom with great bravery and courage. The Garha-Katanga kingdom included the region of the Narmada valley and parts of northern Madhya Pradesh. The Gond tribe is a prominent tribe in central India known for its rich cultural heritage and tenacity. According to the records of the government, the queen held the royal duties for 16 years .
