Jichkar is reported to have first earned degrees in medicine – MBBS and MD from Nagpur. Remarkably, between 1973 and 1990, he went on to complete a total of 20 university degrees, earning accolades in fields such as medicine, law, journalism, business management, and Sanskrit literature, among others. A true genius and scholar, Jichkar appeared in 42 university examinations during this period, earning numerous gold medals for his outstanding academic performance.
Many of you might not know that Shrikant Jichkar became the youngest Member of the Legislative Assembly in India. After completing his MBBS and MD degrees from Nagpur, Jichkar went on to pursue degrees in public administration, sociology, economics, Sanskrit, history, English literature, philosophy, political science, and ancient Indian history, culture, and archaeology.

In addition to his impressive academic achievements, Shrikant Jichkar also pursued a master’s degree in business administration and international law, a Doctor of Business Management, a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and a Doctor of Literature in Sanskrit. His thirst for knowledge spanned a remarkable range of disciplines.
Shrikant Jichkar, an exceptionally talented student, received several gold medals throughout his academic journey. According to media reports, between 1973 and 1990, he enrolled in 42 university examinations and earned 20 degrees. In 1978, after successfully clearing the UPSC exam, Jichkar was selected to serve as a central civil servant in the Indian Police Service (IPS).
In 1980, Shrikant Jichkar made a significant career shift by resigning from the Indian Police Service (IPS) and successfully clearing the UPSC exam once more, this time securing a position as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. Shortly after his appointment, he entered the political arena, winning an election to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). His political journey quickly progressed, leading him to take on the role of a minister, where he managed 14 different portfolios.
He also held the position of State Minister in the Maharashtra government. From 1980 to 1985, Jichkar was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, and later, he served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1986 to 1992, where he was designated as Minister of State.
He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 1992 to 1998. In 1992, Shrikant Jichkar founded the Sàndipani School in Nagpur. Tragically, on June 2, 2004, Jichkar passed away at the age of 49 after his car met with an accident near Kondhali, approximately 50 kilometers from Nagpur.
