IIT-Mandi report reveals Indian students show highest entrepreneurial intent as nearly 14 per cent of Indian students plan to become founders immediately on graduation, in alignment with the global average of 15.7 per cent.
Almost 32.5 per cent of Indian college students are already entrepreneurs report suggests and they’re actively involved in starting their businesses. Indian students peak the global figure by a higher global average of 25.7 per cent, according to the IIT Mandi report.
As indicated by the IIT Mandi survey, Indian students plan to enforce upon their entrepreneurial abilities and become founders immediately after graduation, aligning with the global average of 15.7 per cent.
It has also been revealed that about 69.7 percent of students initially aim for employment itself after graduation but aspirations shift over time, while 31.4 percent students intend to pursue entrepreneurship five years after graduating compared to the global average of 30 per cent. The students aiming for graduation eventually the figure drops to 52.2 percent as well over five years of employment, with 31 per cent of students aspiring to drop employment and become entrepreneurs during that period – up from 14 per cent at graduation.
This data had been released in the ‘GUESSS India 2024 Report’ previously, a survey on Indian Student Entrepreneurship, brought out by the India Chapter of Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Student’s Survey (GUESSS) – a global research project that studies and surveys student entrepreneurs across 57 countries worldwide.
The report by IIT Mandi also has showed 38 per cent students actively involved in venture’s creation where 33 percent stand in the nascent stage, the highest among their global peers. However, only 4.8 per cent have reached the revenue-generating stage, highlighting the potential for growth.
It has been noticed Indian universities have been actively leading and creating a positive entrepreneurship environment, this support shows about 63% of the student entrepreneurs currently access university support, and 26% of student ventures incubated. It has been rated 4.7 out of 7 – the highest among leading startup ecosystems globally.
The report was led by Dr Puran Singh, Associate Professor, School of Management, IIT Mandi and Country Delegate, GUESSS India, and co-authored by Dharmender K Yadav, National Team Member and Doctoral Candidate, School of Management at IIT Mandi.
