The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has announced a groundbreaking initiative for undergraduate admissions under the Fine Arts and Culture Excellence (FACE) category for the academic year 2025-26. IIT Madras becomes the first IIT in the country to launch such a scheme, aimed at recognizing and rewarding students with exceptional achievements in fine arts and cultural activities.
Under this initiative, two seats per programme in all BTech and BS courses will be reserved for FACE applicants. Of these, one seat will be exclusively for female candidates, while the other will be gender-neutral, said Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, at a press conference.
Candidates eligible for this scheme must qualify in JEE Advanced 2025 and appear on the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank lists. Applications for FACE admission will be processed through a separate portal, jeeadv.iitm.ac.in/face, bypassing the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for FACE admission, candidates must:
1. Be Indian nationals or OCI/PIO students who chose to be treated as Indian nationals during JEE Advanced 2025 registration.
2. Achieve a rank in JEE Advanced 2025 and meet the Class 12 eligibility criteria for IITs.
3. Demonstrate excellence in fine arts or culture through awards, scholarships, or recognition in approved categories.
Admission Process
Candidates will be scored based on their achievements in fine arts and cultural activities. A FACE Rank List (FRL) will be prepared, with seat allotment conducted in multiple rounds. Applicants must accept or reject allotted seats within specified deadlines. Those accepting seats must withdraw from the JoSAA process to finalize admission.
Previous Initiative in Sports
This follows IIT Madras’ earlier introduction of the Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) scheme in 2024, offering admissions to sportspersons with JEE Advanced qualifications through a separate portal.
With these initiatives, IIT Madras continues to lead in creating inclusive opportunities for talented students across diverse domains.
