Business Wire India: IIT Madras recently held a distinguished ceremony to honor and release the book “100 Great IITians – Dedicated to the Service of the Nation”. This book pays tribute significant contributions of IIT graduates to India’s development.

There’s a common belief that IIT graduates prefer to settle abroad after finishing their studies. Commander VK Jaitly, an IIT Kharagpur alumnus, aimed to challenge this notion. Over four years, he researched and compiled the lives of 100 notable IITians who have devoted themselves to their country. These individuals either stayed in India or returned after working abroad, committed to contributing to their homeland. The book showcases IITians from various sectors including academia, industry, research and development, defense organizations like DRDO and ISRO, as well as adventure, and even spiritual and social fields.

At a recent ceremony hosted by IIT Madras, six distinguished IITians residing in Chennai were honored by the chief guest, Professor Ravi Bhaskaran, a celebrated academician. The honorees, featured in the book “100 Great IITians – Dedicated to the Service of the Nation,” include:

Padmashri CN Raghvendran, a globally recognized architect from Chennai, Srinivasan Vishwanathan, a versatile CXO, Padma Shri Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala, who has significantly advanced India’s technological capabilities, Shri B Santhanam, the CEO of Saint-Gobain India and APAC, known for his industrial contributions, particularly through the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Prof. Sujatha Srinivasan, whose works support equipment for the disabled have received widespread recognition, Balaji Sampath, who is working with the economically weaker sections of society.

Commander VK Jaitly announced that all profits from the sale of the book will be gone to societal improvement: 40% will fund scholarships for economically weaker students at all 23 IITs, another 40% will support the development of tribal villages near IIT Kharagpur, 10% will contribute to the PM CARES Fund, and the remaining 10% will be donated to various social organizations such as Youth4Nation, where Commander Jaitly serves as a National Coordinator.

The event took place at the AMM Arunachalam Auditorium within the ICSR, under the full support of Prof V Kamakoti, the Director of IIT Madras. Prof Devendra Jalihal, the incoming Director of IIT Guwahati, expertly managed the event, ensuring it ran on schedule. Rajah Venkat, the President of the IIT Kharagpur Alumni Foundation India, graced the event, which was also attended by numerous IIT alumni, students, and veterans from the defense services.

The book has been described as “Must-Read” for engineering students and anyone passionate about societal and national welfare. Excel Publishers has produced a 429-page, multi-color hardbound edition.
