IIM Tiruchirappalli celebrates its 12th Convocation

IIM Tiruchirappalli proudly conducted its twelfth annual convocation on 30th March 2024, honouring 346 students of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), 37 students of the Post-Graduate Programme in Management – Human Resources (PGPM-HR), 53 students of the Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) and 2 students of the Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM). Mr. Jalaj Dani, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIM Tiruchirappalli, presided over the ceremony, with Mr. Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Gas Authority of India Limited, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.



Highlights

In the Chief Guest’s address, Mr. Gupta shared about GAIL’s association with IIM Tiruchirappalli, having recruited students for three consecutive years and expressed hope for future collaborations. He congratulated the graduating class, recognizing their hard work and the support they received from their families and faculty. Acknowledging the role of faculty and staff in shaping students’ minds, Mr. Gupta lauded their dedication and guidance. He stressed upon the significance of parental support in fostering values that contribute to students’ overall development and encouraged graduates to embrace challenges and opportunities, emphasizing their potential to make a positive impact in the world. The Chief Guest also shared valuable advice on networking, goal-setting, empathy, humility, continuous learning, and maintaining work-life balance.

Mr. Jalaj Dani extended a cordial welcome to the Chief Guest and congratulated all graduating students on their remarkable journey. He underscored the convocation’s significance as the culmination of a transformative voyage, marking a pivotal moment in the graduates’ lives. Highlighting the importance of upholding IIM Trichy’s legacy, the Chairman urged graduates to bring honour to their alma mater and assured them of unwavering support from the Institute. He acknowledged the significant investments made in realizing the Institute’s vision, extending gratitude to the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu for their support. Mr. Dani also urged graduates to embrace their individual strengths and collective power. He encouraged them to overcome doubts and embrace resilience, stressing their education’s role in enabling meaningful contributions.

Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, the Director, warmly welcomed all attendees and congratulated graduates and their families for achieving this milestone. Presenting the report for the academic year 2023-2024, the Director showcased the Institute’s achievements across various programmes. He highlighted the growth of the Doctoral Programme, recognizing notable achievements such as publications, teaching cases, and presentations at National and International conferences. The Director emphasized the practical relevance of the PGPM and PGPM-HR curriculum and the experiences gained through guest lectures from industry experts. Highlighting the increasing enrolment in the PGPBM programme, he praised alums for their professional achievements and entrepreneurial acumen. The Director provided an overview of the placement report, noting a substantial increase in companies participating in both final and summer placements. He highlighted the Institute’s contribution to nation-building through increased recruitment from public sector undertakings and government authorities. The Director proudly acknowledged student achievements in various case competitions, including victories in Tata Quest, V-Guard Big Idea Business Plan Contest, and Godrej LOUD Season 12. Students emerged as National Finalists in the CFA Research Challenge and Finalists in Future ON by DCM Shriram, Coca-Cola Disrupt, Bond with Pidilite, VOIS Vantage and TVS Credit E.P.I.C Challenge. The Director also underscored the Institute’s role in providing customized Management Development Programmes for senior executives from government, public sector and private organizations. Collaborations with VDart, Aavin, and the Singapore South Asia Chamber of Commerce and Industry were highlighted. Emphasizing the importance of a conducive environment for students’ holistic development and success, the Director outlined significant developments in infrastructure, including classrooms, hostels and sports amenities. He concluded by thanking all stakeholders for their support and stressing the Institute’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.
