PAN Aadhaar Link Deadline​


In order to provide some more time to the taxpayers, the date for linking PAN & Aadhaar has been extended to 30th June, 2023, whereby persons can intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for PAN-Aadhaar linking without facing repercussions.

From 1st July, 2023, the unlinked PAN shall become inoperative with consequences. The PAN can be made operative again in 30 days, upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of fee of Rs. 1,000.

The government of India issued a mandate to the Aadhaar linkage to the PAN Card. Aadhaar link is already mandatory for most government schemes. The Income Tax Department has made it easy for taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar.

Documents required for PAN Card with Aadhaar Linkage: To link your PAN Card with Aadhaar, you need the following documents: (a) PAN Card, (b) Aadhaar Card.

How to link PAN Card with Aadhaar? (Option 1)​


If your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked. Linking your PAN Card with Aadhaar Card is a simple process through Income Tax e-filing website. Here are the steps involved:

  1. Visit the official website​


    Indian citizens can visit the Income Tax Department e-filing official website, .

  2. Click on the “Link Aadhaar” option​


    Once you reach the official website, click on the Link Aadhar Option under the “Quick Links” section on the home page.

  3. Enter details​


    Enter your PAN Card number, Aadhaar number, and name as per Aadhaar. If only the birth year is mentioned on your Aadhaar card, then tick the square.

  4. Click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.​


    After entering the required details, verify the details and click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.

  5. Click OK button​


    A pop-up message will appear stating that your Aadhaar will be successfully linked with your PAN card. Click on the “OK” button.

Option 2: Linking PAN and Aadhaar Card through SMS

  1. Type UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><SPACE><10 digit PAN> on your mobile and send it to either 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number.
  2. You will receive a message stating that your Aadhaar and PAN have been successfully linked.

Option 3: Linking PAN and Aadhaar Card through NSDL website

  1. Visit the NSDL website’s PAN-Aadhaar linking page
  2. Fill in the required details, such as PAN, Aadhaar number, name, and captcha code.
  3. Click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.
  4. A message will be displayed indicating that your Aadhaar will be successfully linked with your PAN card.

Note: (a) Name, Date of Birth and Gender as per PAN will be validated against your Aadhaar Details. AND (b) Please ensure that “Aadhaar Number” and “Name as per AADHAAR” is exactly the same as printed on your Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar can also be seeded into the PAN database by quoting the biometrics-based identity number in the PAN application form – for allotment of a new PAN or for reprint of PAN card.

In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided by taxpayer when compared to the actual data in Aadhaar, One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar.

Taxpayers should ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly same. In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN, then the linking will fail and taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.

There is no need to login or be registered on E-filing website. This facility can be used by anyone to link their Aadhaar with PAN. This facility is also available after login on the e-filing website under Profile settings and choose Aadhaar linking.

The details as per PAN will be pre-populated. Enter Aadhaar no. and ENTER NAME EXACTLY AS GIVEN IN AADHAAR CARD (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit.

Taxpayers are requested to use the simplified process to complete the linking of Aadhaar with PAN immediately. This will be useful for E-Verification of Income Tax returns using OTP sent to their mobile registered with Aadhaar.

NOTE: Please ensure the Date of Birth, Gender and Aadhaar Number is as per Aadhaar details to proceed further.

If date of Birth and Gender is fully matched and Name as per Aadhaar is not exactly matched then the user has to additionally provide Aadhaar OTP to proceed with partial name match.
