The Gujarat High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking strict compliance of the circular dated 18.02.2022 issued by the State of Gujarat which makes it mandatory for all public offices and private persons using public space to use display board / signage etc. in Gujarati language.

The PIL has been filed by Gujarati Vichar Manch.

The submission of the Petitioner is that though the circular is being complied with partially but there has been no strict compliance by the private players using public space.

Taking note of the above, without expressing any opinion on the merits of the claim of the petitioner, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee dispose of the PIL with the observation that respondents corporations and Commissioner of Municipalities Administration shall ensure strict compliance of the circular dated 18.02.2022.

With the above observation the Bench disposed of the PIL.
