The Ahmedabad district education officer has requested education staff to identify absent students and the schools with the highest absentee rates following complaints to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) about schools that are allegedly “only on paper” and target students seeking admission to elite courses, such as medical schools, using the schools’ hiring requirements for prior smart students.
