Madras High Court: In an appeal filed by the convicts against the conviction and sentencing order of the Trial Court, the Division Bench of MS Ramesh and N Anand Venkatesh upheld the conviction and life-sentence Order of the Trial Court for killing a Dalit Engineering student.

In the matter at hand, the deceased was abducted and murdered by the convicts and his body was found with his head severed in 2015 for allegedly having a relationship with an upper caste woman.

The Court said that the prosecution was able to establish the chain of events and prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. The Court had examined several points to arrive at its decision namely, the chain of events, the deceased’s severed torso, motive, the last seen theory, scientific evidence, etc.

Thus, the Court upheld the conviction Order of the Trial Court.
