Global Alumni meet hosted with a CME in anesthesia

ALIGARH : The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), hosted a global Alumni Meet-cum-Continuing Medical Education (CME) with more than 200 alumni from across the globe, participating in the meet and sharing their memories of good old days at AMU.

Charing the inaugural session, Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, said that such events are vital for fostering collaboration, strengthening alumni bonds, and providing students and faculty with opportunities to learn from global experiences and perspectives.

Prof Girija Prasad Rath, Academic Registrar, AIIMS, New Delhi delivered Prof. T.Z. Khan Oration, which has been sponsored by the Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America (AMAANA) in memory of the Founder-Chairman of the Department, Prof Tausifa Zameer Khan.

Prof. Rashid Manzoor Khan, Senior Consultant, Khoula Hospital, Oman, delivered Prof. Abdul Quadir Oration, and announced a one-time donation of Rs. 10 lakh, to fund an annual conference and grant travel fellowships to two meritorious students of the department.

Earlier, welcoming the guests and alumni, the Organising Chairman, Prof. Syed Moied Ahmed said that the global alumni meet marks a milestone in the department’s history, creating a platform for academic growth, professional development, and camaraderie that will continue to inspire future collaborations.

The Organizing Secretary, Prof. Hammad Usmani underscored the importance of alumni engagement. He said that by maintaining strong connections with alumni, institutions can enhance their academic indices, creating a platform for former students to reconnect with their alma mater and inspire the next generation to stay updated with the latest advancements and best practices in the field.

The event’s academic sessions included a panel discussion on “Ethics in Anaesthesiology, Role of Steroids, Non-Operating Room Anaesthesia (NORA), and Pain and Palliative Care”.

A felicitation ceremony celebrated alumni’s achievements, fostering a strong sense of connection and belongingness. Prof. Zeenat Qidwai from department’s first postgraduate batch was honored for her pioneering contributions to the field.

Dr. Sharia, Dr. Kulsum, Dr. Vignesh, Dr Fuzail conducted various sessions, and Dr. Shahna Ali extended a vote of thanks.
