1 G7 Health Ministerial Meeting
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya , Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare addressed the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Health Innovations in Nagasaki , Japan . The meeting was organized to discuss the priorities, implementation and use of innovation such as digital health towards ensuring universal health coverage. The meeting was attended by health ministers from G7 member states and invited “Outreach 4” nations—India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
2 Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit takes charge as Vice Chief of the Air Staff
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has taken over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff . An alumnus of the National Defense Academy, he was commissioned into the Fighter Stream on 06 December 1986. He is a graduate of Staff Course, Bangladesh and National Defense College, New Delhi. The Air Marshal is a Qualified Flying Instructor as well as an Experimental Test Pilot, with over 3300 hours of flying experience on Fighter, Trainer and Transport aircraft. He participated in Operation Safed Sagar and Rakshak.
3 India-EU need regular, comprehensive and frank dialogue on Indo-Pacific: Foreign Minister
External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said that there is a need for regular, comprehensive and frank dialogue between India and the European Union, especially on the Indo-Pacific. Addressing the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Dialogue in Stockholm, Sweden, Dr. Jaishankar said that the dialogue is not limited to the current crisis alone. He said that the European Union has to pay attention to the changes taking place in India. Dr. Jaishankar called upon the leaders to consider six points such as taking advantage of globalization, Indo-Pacific and market participation.
4 The third meeting of the G-20 Energy Transition Working Group under the chairmanship of India begins in Mumbai.
Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Raosaheb Danve said that in the third meeting of the Energy Transition Working Group in Mumbai under the G-20 chairmanship of India , the G-20 representatives are deliberating on various alternatives to fossil fuels. India has decided to make carbon emissions net zero by 2070. Shri Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power and Chairman, Energy Transformation Working Group also addressed the inaugural session of the meeting. During this three-day meeting, more than 100 delegates representing G-20 member states, special invitees and international organizations such as the International Energy Agency, the World Bank and the World Energy Council are deliberating on priority areas.
5 Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav launched My Life mobile application in New Delhi
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav launched a mobile application named Meri Life in New Delhi . It is inspired by the concept of Life as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in My Life Cop- 26 , which emphasizes on conscious and deliberate consumption rather than mindless and wasteful consumption. The Prime Minister inaugurated Mission Life in Kevadia, Gujarat in October 2022. This Mission Life focuses on bringing behavioral change in individuals through simple and easy actions. To further catalyze pan-India support and awareness about LIFE, a month-long public support campaign is currently underway. The campaign will culminate in a massive celebration of World Environment Day on 5th June this year.
6 Union Minister Hardeep S Puri launched the mega campaign ‘My Life, My Clean City’
Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep S Puri launched his ministry’s mega campaign ‘ My Life, My Clean City’ in New Delhi.‘ launched. The campaign aims to champion, reduce, reuse and recycle (RRR) concept of waste management. Under this nationwide campaign, RRR centers or one-stop collection centers will be set up where citizens can give their used clothes, shoes, old books, toys and plastics for reuse or recycling. 12 Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister launched Integrated Biological Control Laboratory in Hyderabad
Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India , inaugurated the Integrated Biological Control Laboratory at the National Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM), Hyderabad , Telangana on May 15, 2023. launched. The new Integrated Biological Control Laboratory (BC Lab) is a state-of-the-art laboratory set up at NIPHM, with facilities to provide hands-on experience on production methods for biopesticides and biocontrol agents. These include predators and parasitoids, entomopathogenic fungi, biofertilizers, NPV, pheromones, and flora. Use of bio-control agents, bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers will help reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, thereby minimizing adverse effects on the environment and human health, and thereby improving soil and plant health Will help in conducting the activities of The new Integrated Biological Control Laboratory will also have an Insect Museum, Weed Museum, Exhibition Hall, Natural Farming Cell etc.
13 A small insect called Eretmoptera murfii is changing the soil structure of the Antarctic’s Signy Island: BAS
A tiny flightless midge called Eretmoptera murphyi is changing the soil composition of Antarctica’s Signy Island , according to a study by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). Is. It is an invasive species on Signy Island in the Antarctic. It is endemic to South Georgia, a sub-Antarctic island, and was unintentionally introduced to Signy Island in the 1960s during a botanic experiment. The 1980s saw a significant increase in its prevalence. Eratmoptera murfii feed on dead organic matter, causing rapid plant decomposition and increased soil nitrate levels three to five times higher than in areas of the island where midges (small biting insects) are absent and only local invertebrate species are found. High levels of nitrate can be toxic to other plant species and can also contaminate groundwater. High levels of nitrates in water can lead to excessive growth of algae, which can deplete oxygen levels and harm aquatic life.

16 Bhopal, the first Indian city to track SDG progress

Bhopal’s Voluntary Local Review (VLR) is the result of a collaboration between Bhopal Municipal Corporation, UN-Habitat and various local stakeholders, which aims to showcase the city’s efforts towards sustainable and inclusive urban transformation. This review includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches, including qualitative mapping of 56 development projects. In 2015, all 193 UN member states adopted Agenda 2030, which includes 17 SDGs and 169 objectives.
17 Tibet Matters March was organized
The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) has organized a month-long Tibet cause march from Gangtok in Sikkim to Tezpur in Assam . 18 ESA’s Aeolus satellite running out of fuel: report
Aeolus is a 1360-kg satellite launched (in August 2018) into space by the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Earth Explorer research mission to demonstrate new space technology. 19 ISRO tests semi-cryogenic engine
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully tested its semi-cryogenic engine , which will be used in future launch vehicles. The ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPCR) at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu conducted the first integrated test of the 2000 kilonewton thrust semi-cryogenic engine on intermediate configuration, a statement issued from the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru said.
