A local court in Islamabad on Saturday sentenced former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to three-year imprisonment in a corruption case.

As per local media reports, the Chairman of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party was accused of not declaring money he had earned from selling expensive state gifts when he was in power.

The District and Sessions court ordered immediate arrest of the former Pakistan Prime Minister. His lawyer Intazar Hussain told the local media that Khan has been taken into custody from his Lahore residence.

Hussain said Khan will challenge the verdict.

Earlier on Friday, the High Court of Islamabad had upheld the maintainability of a criminal complaint against Khan.

The Bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq ordered the trial court to re-hear the case. It further rejected the petition filed by Khan seeking transfer of the case to another court and also issued notice on the judgement of the Sessions Court, which rejected the list of witnesses.
