In Vedic astrology, ‘Amrit Kaal’ refers to an auspicious moment to start a new business or work. Prime Minister Modi during his address of the inaugural session of the First All India District Legal Services Authorities Meet said this was the time of Azadi ke Amrit Kaal, which translated as ‘The Era of Independence’s Golden Age’.

This was the time for the resolutions that would take the country to new heights in the next 25 years. Like the Ease of Doing Business and the Ease of Living, Ease of Justice was equally important in this Amrit Yatra of the country, the Prime Minister had added.

Dr. Ashok Sharma, Founder and CEO of FICL, said that a corporate counsel was the one who navigated the legal terrain of the company. A corporate counsel required a combination of legal expertise, cultural awareness and adaptability.

Corporate counsels, who were able to stay up-to-date with the latest legal developments and trends, while also remaining attuned to the broader social and political context, would be well-positioned to provide effective legal guidance and support to their organisations, Sharma added.

He said the event will help corporate counsels to pace with current legal trends, regulations and best practices, apart from mitigating the organisation’s legal risks.

To effectively navigate India’s legal terrain in the era of Amrit Kaal, a corporate counsel must have a deep understanding of the cultural and social context in which the legal system operates.

He must be aware of diverse perspectives and values that shape the Indian legal landscape, as well as possess an understanding of the political and economic factors that may impact the legal decision-making.

Sharma said the event would focus on how general counsels can improve business value beyond just managing risk, how they can lead with impact, and what should be on their agendas going forward.

They should interact with the best minds in the legal industry and see how they manage the transitioning of their legal teams in the present constant innovation environment and navigate these transitions while delivering positive outcomes for their businesses.

The one-day event will equip one with the necessary knowledge and strategies to prepare for the era of Amrit Kaal, Sharma added.

The sessions will be on the following topics –

Session 1 -Preparing for the Future: Trends and Strategies for Legal Departments/ “Navigating Change in the Legal Industry: Top Trends to Watch”

SESSION 2 Corporate Insolvency- “Revitalising India’s Corporate Insolvency Framework: The Role of IBC and NCLT Reforms.”

SESSION 3 Intellectual Property -“Innovate to Succeed: A Focus on IPR for Businesses and Startups.”

SESSION 4 -Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) – “From Awareness to Action: Prioritising Diversity and Inclusion in ESG Investing.”

SESSION 6- Dispute Resolution – “Resolving Disputes in India: Trends and Strategies for Success” Part-2.

SESSION 7 -Will Bar Council India’s new rules on foreign lawyers be a game changer for the globalisation of the Indian legal profession?

The results of India’s first comprehensive Survey on Dispute Resolution by FICL & Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) will also be released on the occasion.

FICL is a non-profit organisation with a membership of over 1700 people.
