During her school days, Riar reportedly failed in Class 6th. Speaking of her educational qualifications, she completed her education at Gurdaspur and enrolled in class 4 at the sacred Heary School in Dalhousie. Later, Rukmani pursued her graduation in Social Science from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. She completed her master’s degree in social sciences at Mumbai’s Tata Institute. According to the media reports, she was appointed the commissioner of Jaipur Greater. She was even posted as the District Collector in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district.
Soon after her Master’s degree, she interned with non-governmental organization(NGOs) such as Ashoda in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai. It was during this time at the NGOs, she developed a keen interest in civil service and decided to appear for the UPSC examination.
IAS Rukmani cleared the UPSC examination in her first attempt. She scored impressive All India Rank(AIR). She did not join any coaching classes and so her sole success credit goes to her self-study. Her preparation included relying on NCERT books from classes 6 to 12 and consistently reading newspapers and magazines.
