A Delhi court on Thursday issued notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on a petition filed by terror funding accused Engineer Rashid, seeking interim bail to take oath as a member of parliament (MP), following his recent victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Chander Jit Singh of Patiala House Courts sought the response of the national agency and listed the matter for further hearing on June 6.
Rashid, who is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in an alleged terror-funding case, fought elections from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate.
He defeated former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by over two lakh votes.
Appearing for Rashid, Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi apprised the court that the accused was seeking interim bail or custody parole to take oath and perform other Parliamentary functions as an MP.
The jailed leader was earlier a Member of the Legislative Assembly. His Lok Sabha campaign was managed by his sons Abrar Rashid and Asrar Rashid.
