Aligarh: The Department of Pathology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized an international Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “Advancements in Surgical Pathology in the Era of Precision Medicine”, along with an alumni meet. The event drew participation, with around 180 delegates registering for the CME.
The scientific sessions featured experts sharing views on advancements in surgical pathology. Prof. Sandeep Mathur from AIIMS, New Delhi, delivered a lecture on recent updates in endometrial carcinoma. Dr. Hasan Rizvi, Consultant Pathologist at Hamad Medical Corporation presented on developments in soft tissue tumors, while Dr. Deepali Jain from AIIMS, provided updates in pulmonary pathology.
A session titled “Potpourri of Interesting Cases by Young Faculty” featured presentations by professionals, including Prof. Shruti Bhargava (SMS Jaipur), Dr. Sumaira Qayoom (KGMU, Lucknow), Dr. Jai Kumar Chaurasia (AIIMS Bhopal), Dr. Sadaf Haiyat (MPMMCC, Varanasi), and Drs. Bushra Siddiqui, Ruquiya Afrose, and Suhailur Rehman from JNMC, AMU.
An online poster competition showcased innovative research by junior and senior residents, as well as undergraduate students. The winners in various categories included: Group A: Winner – Dr. Junaid Akhtar (JR 2, Pathology, JNMC); Runner-up – Dr. Ejaz Ahmad (JR, General Surgery, JNMC); Group B:Winner – Dr. Adiba Khan (JR 3, Pathology, JNMC); Runners-up – Dr. Malik Beenish Iqbal (JR 2, Pathology, JNMC) and Dr. Rahul Gautam (JR, General Surgery, JNMC); Group C: Winner – Dr. Areeba Khursheed (JR, General Surgery, JNMC); Runners-up – Dr. Subham Singh (JR 2, Pathology, JNMC) and Dr. Maria Batool (JR 2, Pathology, JNMC); Group D: Winner – Dr. Kanak Atri (JR, Pathology, SMSR, Noida); Runner-up – Dr. Zakia Almas (JR, Obstetrics and Gynecology, JNMC).
In the Senior Residents category, Dr. Haleema Sadia (AIIMS Raebareli) and Dr. Sumbul Warsi (JNMC) secured first and second places, respectively. Among undergraduates, Ms. Fatima Nadeem won first prize, while Ms. Aiman Tanwir was the runner-up.
The inaugural session, presided over by AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon, emphasized the critical role of surgical pathology in cancer diagnosis and the importance of a multidisciplinary treatment approach. Dean, Principal and CMS JNMCH, Prof. Veena Maheshwari, highlighted pathology’s role in bridging clinical practice and research.
A CME souvenir, edited by Prof. Hena Ansari and Dr. Mohd. Rafey, was also released during the inaugural session. Organizing Chairman Prof. Mahboob Hasan delivered the welcome address, while Organizing Secretary Prof. Nishat Afroz proposed the vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Co-Organizing Secretary Dr. Bushra Siddiqui.
The event concluded with a postgraduate quiz coordinated by Prof. Nishat Afroz, Dr. Bushra Siddiqui, and Dr. Suhailur Rehman. The winning team included Dr. Sumbul Warsi, Dr. Syeda Iqra Usman, and Dr. Arshi Khan, while the runners-up were Dr. Madeeha Khan, Dr. Gourik Gangopadhyay, and Dr. Gowhami N.
The alumni meet committee, comprising Prof. S.H. Arif, Prof. Roobina Khan, Dr. Mohd. Feroz Alam, Dr. Shagufta Qadri, and Dr. Murad Ahmed, ensured the success of the event, which celebrated academic excellence and strengthened alumni-faculty connections.
