Department of Ilaj-Bit-Tadbeer organises workshop on healthy eating practices in metabolic diseases

Aligarh : Department of Ilaj-Bit-Tadbeer, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University organised a one-day national workshop on “Healthy Eating Practices in Metabolic Diseases”.

The chief guest of the inaugural session, Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, former Regional Advisor, Health & Nutrition, UNICEF Regional Office for CEE, CIS and Baltics Countries, Geneva, Switzerland appreciated the initiative taken by the department on such an alarming medical issue of national concern. He said such deliberations are needed to spread awareness and change the mindset regarding eating habits.

The guest of honour, Dr. Deenanath Yadav, ACF-II/ Food Safety and Drug Administration, Aligarh discussed the food safety and the hazardous impact of adulterants particularly in the Aligarh district.

Presiding over the session, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, Department of West Asian and North African Studies, AMU urged that such programmes are useful for people so there is a need to organise them at a larger scale catering for students of non-medical backgrounds.

The Organizing Secretary, Prof. Asia Sultana, Chairperson, Department of Ilaj-Bit-Tadbeer said the department is steadfast in contributing towards national health goals and continuously strives to produce a skilled workforce while addressing the pressing need of treating the patient holistically.

On the occasion, Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, AMU, Aligarh announced to start two new OPDs of Ilaj-bit-Tadbeer, including one for Hijama & Wellness, considering the growing demand of regimental procedures.

The Organizing Chairperson Prof. Mohd Anwar delivered the introductory remarks, while Dr. Mohammad Saad Ahmed Khan proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan and Dr. Safia Usmani conducted the programme.

The event featured four invited lectures by eminent scholars including Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Dr. Hamid Ashraf, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, JNMCH, Dr Abdur Rauf and Dr Diwan Israr Khan.

The workshop was attended by more than 150 delegates from different parts of the country.
