Aligarh : The department of Chemistry, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized Bharatiya Bhasha Mahotsav, an initiative by the Government of India, to promote language harmony and encourage the learning of Indian languages apart from one’s mother tongue. The event was held to commemorate the birth anniversary of the celebrated Tamil patriotic poet, Shri Subramania Bharathi.
Presiding over the event, Prof. Zeba N. Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Department, emphasized the role of language in shaping and strengthening interpersonal relationships. She highlighted the spiritual and societal connections of language by quoting renowned Urdu poet Sir Allama Iqbal’s verse:“Sajdon se tere kya hua, Sadiyan Guzar Gayiin, Duniya teri badal jaye woh sajda talash karr”.
Prof. Sartaj Tabassum reflected on the importance of languages as a cornerstone of effective communication and cultural integration, while Prof. Farukh Arjmand enriched the audience with verses from the iconic Kashmiri poetess, Haba Khatoon.
The event highlighted the linguistic and cultural diversity of India through student performances. Mr. Tawseef Najar (M.Sc., III Semester) recited a poem in Kashmiri, and Mr. Matiur S.K. (M.Sc., III Semester) delivered a poem in Bangla. Mr. Mosrur Ahmad Tapadar (B.Sc., I Semester) captivated the audience with a song in Sylheti, “Loke bole bole re, Ghor badi bala nay amar.”
Dr. Anamika Gupta conducted the proceedings, presenting the Odiya patriotic song, “Ai Deso Ai Maati, Mamta Mayi Maati,” and reciting the Sanskrit phrase, “Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi,” to celebrate India’s rich linguistic heritage. She concluded the event by delivering the vote of thanks.
The Bharatiya Bhasha Mahotsav was a tribute to India’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
