Rouse Avenue, Delhi: Additional Session Judge Amitabh Rawat allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s plea seeking custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Excise Liquor Policy case, which they are investigating separately. The Court remanded him to three- days CBI custody after hearing long contentions.

The CBI had sought five days custody in the matter. Earlier today, the Court had granted CBI permission to arrest Kejriwal.

The petition filed in the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s order imposing an interim stay on the operation of the Trial Court’s order granting him bail in the money laundering case was withdrawn earlier today and the Supreme Court had granted the permission to file fresh application.

On 20-06-2024, the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case, however, on the next day i.e., 21-06-2024, the ED opposed the bail before the Delhi High Court, stating that the order was pronounced late night, and no clear opportunity was granted to oppose the bail.

The Delhi High Court, on 25-06-2024, allowed the ED’s challenge and stayed the bail, stating that the Trial Court, while passing the impugned order did not appropriately appreciate the materials and pleas taken by ED.

The Supreme Court while hearing a challenge against the Delhi High Court’s order dated 21-06-2024 imposing an interim stay on the Bail granted by the Trial Court, adjourned the matter for hearing on 26-06-2024, which has now been withdrawn with a permission to file fresh application.

Earlier, on 10-05-2024, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail till 01-06-2024 considering the 18th Lok Sabha General Elections with a direction to surrender on 02-06-2024, with several conditions. On 29-05-2024, the Supreme Court Registry had refused to list Kejriwal’s application seeking a seven-day extension of his interim bail in the Liquor Policy Case, granted on 10-05-2024.
