A Delhi court has directed Times Now Navbharat news channel not to telecast a news story under the heading ‘Operation Paap’ against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan.

The order was passed by Additional Senior Civil Judge Ajay Kumar Malik of Dwarka Courts in a defamation suit filed by the AAP leader.

An audio clip released by the news channel claimed that Balyan and a gangster named Kapil Sangwan were talking about extorting two businessmen.

In its August 17 interim order, the Dwarka court directed defendant Times Now Navbharat/Times Group media channel not to broadcast/telecast/print the news/statement/opinion under the heading of operation ‘PAAP’ against the plaintiff till the next date of hearing (August 18). The order was extended yesterday by the court till August 23.

The Counsel representing the news channel apprised the court that the news channel has complied with the August 17 order and has undertaken not to broadcast the news till further orders.

The Counsel sought short adjournment for filing the reply, to which the court agreed and listed the matter for further hearing on August 23.

As per Balyan, he and his family members were shocked by the news broadcasted by Times Now Navbharat under heading “Sarji ka Vidhayak Gangster ka Sahay,” which was false and had caused great loss to his reputation, including that of his family.
