1 Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired air-to-surface RudraM-II missile from Sukhoi-30 Mk-I off Odisha coast
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired RudraM-II air-to-surface missile from Sukhoi-30 Mk-I platform of Indian Air Force (IAF) off the coast of Odisha on May 29, 2024 at around 11.30 am. This crucial test met all the test objectives with accuracy of data related to propulsion system and control and navigation being met. Each activity during this missile test was validated through range tracking equipment such as electro-optical systems, radars and telemetry stations deployed by Integrated Test Range, Chandipur at various locations including on-board ship . Rudra M-II is an indigenously developed solid fuel powered air-launched missile system capable of air-to-surface strike to destroy a variety of enemy weapons. This missile system employs several state-of-the-art indigenous technologies developed by various laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation.
2 Indian Army Major Radhika Sen selected for the 2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award
Major Radhika Sen of the Indian Army has been selected for the 2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award. The award acknowledges her support for women and girls as a peacekeeper. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated her and described her as a true and ideal leader. He said that her service was a true goodwill towards the United Nations as a whole. Mr. Guterres will present this award to Major Radhika Sen on Thursday on the occasion of United Nations International Peacekeepers Day . The award recognizes the efforts of a military peacekeeper in promoting the principles of the Security Council Resolution of 2000. This resolution calls for the protection of women and girls from conflict-related sexual violence and gender-related responsibilities for the United Nations. According to the United Nations, Major Radhika Sen served in the Organization Stabilization Mission in the Republic of Congo . There she helped establish the Community Alert Network in North Kivu. Major Radhika Sen is the second Indian peacekeeper to receive this award. Before him, Major Suman Gwani, serving in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan , had received this honor in 2019 .
3 Indian mountaineer Satyadeep Gupta created history by becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse twice in a season
Indian mountaineer Satyadeep Gupta has created history by becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse twice in a season. He created another record by traveling from Mount Everest to Mount Lhotse in 11 hours and 15 minutes. Mr. Gupta completed the climb to the 8,516 meter high Mount Lhotse on Monday afternoon. After this, he climbed the 8,849 meter high Mount Everest at 12:45 in the midnight. He was accompanied by mountaineering guides Pestemba Sherpa and Nima Ungdi Sherpa. Mr. Gupta had earlier climbed Mount Everest on May 21 and Mount Lhotse on May 22. Satyadeep Gupta is a resident of Pilibhit city of Uttar Pradesh.
4 RBI launches Flow Portal and Mobile App for transactions in Government Securities
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on May 28, 2024 launched three major initiatives: Flow Portal, a mobile app for retail investors to buy and sell in government securities, and a Fintech Repository. These three initiatives were launched by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Flow (Platform for Regulatory Applications, Verifications and Authorizations) is a centralized web-based portal that provides a secure platform for individuals or entities to obtain authorizations, licenses or regulatory approvals from the Reserve Bank. A person or entity can submit 60 application forms online covering various regulatory and supervisory departments of the RBI. Applicants can also track their application online, monitor the status of their application and receive a decision from the RBI in a timely manner.
5 Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager will be made in the country
On May 28, Indian company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) signed an agreement with IIT Bombay regarding semiconductor sensing tools . Under this, TCS and IIT Bombay will jointly manufacture the country’s first quantum diamond microchip imager . The quantum diamond microchip imager can create images of magnetic fields. This makes non-invasive and non-destructive mapping of semiconductor chips possible. This will work to reduce the failure of semiconductor chips and improve electronics devices. It will take 2 years to develop the quantum diamond microchip imager. TCS experts PQuest and Dr. Kasturi Saha, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay will work on this project.
6 Cold Chain and Logistics Summit being organised by FICCI in New Delhi
Cold Chain and Logistics Summit organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi . The summit aims to promote collaboration and innovation in developing an integrated, sustainable and efficient cold chain system for India’s perishable goods industry. Speaking at the summit, Surendra Ahirwar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that discussions on the cold chain and logistics sector are the need of the hour. He said that the discussions will also help in redefining the logistics system of a wide range of sectors including pharmaceuticals, food, oil and flowers. More than 250 delegates from various industry sectors from across the country are participating in the summit.

In the masters category, Laxman Singh Bhandari won two bronze medals, while Sachin Goyal won a bronze medal in the senior category. 11 International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers 2024
Every year 29 May is observed as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. The day is observed to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of more than 4000 peacekeepers who have laid down their lives while trying to bring peace to conflict-torn areas of the world. The day also urges the global community to join and strengthen the global movement for peace. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in December 2002 to observe 29 May as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. The day 29 May was chosen by the United Nations because on this day in 1948 the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution to authorize the first UN peacekeeping operation in West Asia. The first International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was observed on 29 May 2003. The theme of this year’s International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is: Building back better together, fit for a future .
