India’s foreign exchange earnings from tourism to rise by 107% in 2022

  • India’s foreign exchange earnings from tourism have increased by 107% to ₹1.34 lakh crore in 2022 over the previous year.
  • Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India have increased from 15.2 lakhs in 2021 to 61.9 lakhs in 2022, according to tourism ministry data.

Union Ministry of renewable energy plans to set up 30,000 MW offshore wind farms

  • The Union Ministry of Renewable Energy plans to set up 30 gigawatts (30,000 MW) of offshore wind farms in offshore areas from Rameswaram to Kanyakumari. The ministry has designated Tuticorin V.O. Chidambaranar Port as the implementing agency for this project.
  • In the first phase of the project, wind farms with a capacity of 2 GW (2000 MW) will be set up. Offshore wind turbines can generate up to 15 MW of electricity. They are installed at certain distances in the ocean.

PM Modi inaugurated the newly constructed Integrated International Terminal at Chennai Airport.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new integrated international terminal at the Chennai International Airport at a cost of Rs 1,260 crore on an area of 1.36 lakh square meters.
  • The new integrated terminal building will increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity from 23 million to 30 million passengers annually. It is also set up with traditional features like kolam, saree, temples and natural surroundings to reflect the Tamil culture.

Minister Shri Amit Shah will launch ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ in Kibithoo, a border village in Arunachal Pradesh

  • Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Mr. Amit Shah will inaugurate the ‘Vibrant Villages Project’ on April 10, 2023 at Kibithoo, a border village in Anjaw District, Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India has approved the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ (VVP) with a core component of Rs 4800 crore for the financial year 2022-23. In the first phase, 455 villages in Arunachal Pradesh have been identified.

  • A solar-powered ‘Cloth Bag ATM’ has been installed near the IDPL fruit market area in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, offering carry bags made of cloth.
  • This step has been taken to replace single-use plastic bags.

An 800-year-old Pandyan sculpture discovered

  • An 800-year-old medieval Pandyan Durga sculpture has been found in the fields near Narikudi Nalur in Tamil Nadu.
  • The sculpture is buried deep in the ground, 4 feet high, and is carved in relief on a large slab of stone. On the head is seen a multi-tiered karandamakudam. Long ear ornaments, neck ornament, Sannaveera engraved on the chest. They are slightly damaged.

England won the Women’s Finalissima Championship.

  • For the first time, the Women’s Finalissima football match was played at Wembley. In this match against Brazil, England’s Chloe Kelly won the championship with a score of 4-2.

World Chess Championship

  • The World Chess Championship, which will be held till May 2 under the auspices of the International Chess Federation, has started in Astana, Kazakhstan. In this series, the world number 1 player, defending champion Magnus Carlsen, will face the number 2 player, Ian Nepomniatsky of Russia.

Bangladesh defeated Ireland in the Mirpur Test Match

  • Bangladesh won the Test match against Ireland by 7 wickets. The match was held at the National Stadium.
  • In the first innings, Ireland scored 214 runs and Bangladesh scored 369 runs. Ireland, who played the 2nd innings behind by 155 runs, scored 286 runs for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of the 3rd day. Mushfiqur scored 126 runs in the first innings and 51 runs in the 2nd innings and won the man of the match award.
