Jal jeevan mission achieves the mile stone of 60% coverage in tap water connection

  • 60% of rural households have access to piped clean drinking water under the Jal Jeevan scheme. More than 11.66 crore households and 58 crore people have access to clean drinking water through this water connection
  • 5 states of Gujarat, Telangana, Goa, Haryana, and Punjab and 3 Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands,Daman Diu Dadra Nagar Haveli and Puducherry have reported 100% coverage.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has released around Rs 30 crore under the PLI scheme for drones and drone components in the financial year 2022-23.

  • The government has approved an incentive linked to the production of drones and drone components at a cost of Rs 30 crore for the PLI scheme.
  • To promote the domestic drone industry, the government announced the Production Linked Incentive PLI scheme, which includes drone-related software developers.

India-Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime Exercise SLINEX-23 to be held in Colombo

  • The 10th edition of the IN-SLN Bilateral Maritime Exercise SLINEX-23 is scheduled in Colombo. Indian Navy ships INS Gildan and INS Savitri participated in the exercise for the Indian contingent.
  • Sri Lankan Navy is represented by SLNS Gajabaku and SLNS Sagara. The exercise is conducted in two phases namely port phase and sea phase.

Amendment of section 10(26AAA) of the Income-tax Act, 1961 by the Finance Act, 2023

  • Following the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Writ Petition (C) No.59/2013 bearing 1283/2021, certain amendments have been made in clause (26AAA) of Section 10 of the Income Tax Act, 2023 by the Finance Act.
  • For the purpose of removal of doubts, it is hereby clarified that the term “Sikkimese” as defined for the purposes of the said clause is for the purposes of the Income Tax Act, 1961 only and not for any other purpose

The UK Prime Minister launched a task force to punish sex offenders against women and girls.

  • Sex crimes against women and girls are on the rise in the UK. To prevent this, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has launched a new task force to monitor criminals who commit sexual crimes against women and girls.
  • Subsequently, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was wrong not to take action against the culprits for fear of accusations of racism and bigotry. He said that the perpetrators can no longer escape.

Govt awards GI tag to Banarasi Paan and Banarasi Langda mango

  • The government has issued Geographical Index (GI) for Banarasi Paan and Banarasi Langda mangoes. This code indicates that these products have qualities attributed to their geographical origin.
  • Apart from these, several establishments from Uttar Pradesh such as Ramnagar Bandha (Brinjal), Muzaffarnagar Gur (Jaggery), Aligarh Thala and Hadhras Hing have also received the GI tag.

GI tag for 11 more items in Tamil Nadu

  • A geographical indication is used to identify agricultural products, natural products, handicrafts etc. that are traditionally produced in a particular place is provided. It stands as a testament to the pride of the place of manufacture, the heritage and high quality of the products.
  • In Tamil Nadu, 45 products have been given geographical indication while 11 more products have been given geographical indication.Tamil Nadu is ranked first in India by getting GI tag for 56 products.

India’s Justice Report has ranked Karnataka at the top among states and Union Territories in providing access to justice

  • According to the India Justice Report 2022, Karnataka tops the list of states and union territories in providing access to justice.
  • It is followed by Tamil Nadu at the second position, Telangana at the third position and Uttar Pradesh at the last position at the 18th position.

  • Art Collector Kiran Nadar has been conferred Chevaliye Award, the highest honor of France.
  • She has been instrumental in strengthening cultural ties between India and France. In this case, Kiran Nadar has been awarded the ‘Chevalier’, the highest award of the French government, in appreciation of his service.

Miami Open Tennis – Medvedev is the champion

  • Miami Open tennis held in USA. Russia’s Danil Medvedev won the men’s singles title in the series. In the final, Medvedev won 7-5, 6-3 against Italy’s Yannick Sinner.
  • This is Medvedev’s 4th title this season. Miami Open became the 5th champion in the ‘ATP Masters 1000’ series.
