State-wise renewable energy capacity addition in the country from 2017-18 to 2022-23 has been published by the Union Ministry.

  • State-wise details of renewable energy capacity addition in the country for the last five years and the current year i.e. 2017-18 to 2022-23 (up to Feb. 2023) have been released.
  • A total of 168.96 GW of renewable energy capacity has been installed in the country as on 28.02.2023. This includes 64.38 GW of solar power, 51.79 GW of hydro power, 42.02 GW of wind power and 10.77 GW of bio power, Union New Renewable Energy Minister R.K. Singh said in the Lok Sabha today.

Urban Climate Film Festival 2023 in Delhi

  • This is the first Urban Climate Film Festival organized by the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) through the CITIIS programme.
  • Objective: 11 films selected from 9 countries will be screened to create wider awareness of the impact of climate change on cities.

Archaeological discovery

First Maravarman Sundara Pandyan inscription discovered in Tamil Nadu.

  • An inscription of Maravarman Sundara Pandyan, the first to recover Madurai, was found at Chanavayal, bordering Pudukottai and Sivagangai districts in the state of Tamil Nadu.
  • The inscription was found broken, four and a half feet high and three and a quarter feet wide, with 114 lines on 3 sides.
  • 103 of these lines are clear. In it, this inscription records the news of the 6th regnal year (AD 1222) of Maravarman Tiruphuvana Emperor Sundarapandi I, who ended the rule of the Cholas.

Discovery of a new planet outside the solar system

  • NASA has announced the discovery of a new planet outside the solar system.
  • The new planet, cataloged as VHS 1256B, is 40 light-years away from Earth. NASA has announced that it has also found evidence of water on the new planet.

Nisar (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar)

  • NASA and ISRO jointly developed the Nisar Earth Science Satellite at a cost of Rs 470 crore
  • Objectives: Design, build and launch a dual band (L and S band) satellite to explore new application areas using microwave data, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said.

RINL has won the national level JCSSI Ispat Suraksha Puraskar award

  • RINL Visakhapatnam received national level safety Awards “Ispat Suraksha Puraskar” during annual award function held at SSO Ranchi and on 22-03-2023 organised by JCSSI.
  • Maintenance and service zones bagged the Award for the year 2021-22. RINL Visakhapatnam also bagged Prestigious Award for “Zero Fatal Accident involving Contract Labour” for the year 2022.

Best Organizer Award – 2023

  • AHF (Asian Hockey Federation) presented the Best Organizer Award to Hockey India for successfully hosting the 2023 FIH Men’s World Cup in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.
  • Hockey India General Secretary Bola Nath Singh received the award during AHF’s function held in Mungyeong, Korea.

  • India wins silver and bronze in mixed team category at ISSF Pistol/Rifle World Cup
  • The air pistol mixed team pair of Varun Tomar and Ritham Sangwan won the silver and the pair of Rudranksh Patil and R Narmada Nithin won the bronze.
