CTET Syllabus 2024 & Exam Pattern for Central TET. The Central Board of Secondary Education has started inviting online application for conduct of the 11th edition of Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2024. The test will be conducted in twenty languages in 92 cities all over the country.

The detailed Information Bulletin containing details of examination, syllabus, languages eligibility criteria, examination fee, examination cities and important dates will be available on CTET official website .

The aspiring candidates are requested to download the Information Bulletin from above-mentioned website only and read the same carefully before applying. The aspiring candidates have to apply online only through website .

The online application process will start from .. onwards. The last date for submitting online application and fee can be paid up to as per the schedule.

Candidates can check the same on the official website as well. The complete schedule is provided. Candidates to please note that the eligibility criteria for CTET 2024 were recently revised as well to include B.Ed candidates for Paper I as well.

The candidates who have not filled the CTET 2024 paper II and not filled the Paper I preference due to eligibility constraint can now do so during the correction window. The time schedule for the CTET 2024 examination was released earlier. The same is also attached below.

Information about the CTET exam​


The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has disclosed the examination date for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2024 on its official website- ctet.nic.in.

The candidates who score 60 per cent or more in the exam will be considered as TET pass. The candidates can get detailed information related to the examination, syllabus, languages, eligibility criteria, examination fee, examination cities, and important dates from the official website of CTET.

CTET Exam Pattern and CTET Syllabus: To match with the online exams, CBSE had last year changed the syllabus too which is likely to be followed this year too.

While announcing the change in syllabus, CBSE had said, “this has been done with a view to inculcate better test material in terms of content and pedagogy.

A revised syllabus thus will help to assess candidates’ understanding of teaching the subject, understand candidate’s pedagogic content knowledge, the knowledge relevance of the subject in the school curriculum, questions assessing planning of teaching-learning experiences, and assessment methodologies specific to the concept.” The syllabus will be issued along with the notification.

CTET is held for aspirants willing to teach in classes 1 to 8. Those who clear paper 1 can teach in classes 1 to 6 while those who clear paper 2 can teach in classes 6 to 8.

Paper I consists of 30 MCQs each from child development and pedagogy, language I and II, mathematics, and environmental studies.

Paper II features 30 MCQs each from child development and pedagogy, language I and II, and 60 MCQs from either mathematics and science or social studies/sciences.

The total of number of MCQs is 150 for each paper. For the language papers, candidates will have to choose two separate languages. The test will be conducted in 20 languages including Hindi and English.

Conducting exams in regional languages is in line with the new National Education Policy (NEP) which advocates for teaching in the mother tongue.

The NEP also suggests that those who pass TET will have to give a demonstration or appear in an interview, and show their knowledge of the local language.

At least two papers of CTET 2024 will be conducted and all the questions in CTET will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with four alternatives

  • Each question will carry one mark and there will be no negative marking
  • Paper 1 is for those who want to apply for the post of teacher for classes 1-5
  • Paper 2 is for a candidate who intends to be a teacher for classes 6-8
  • It must be noted that a candidate willing to sit for both the posts will have to take both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

CTET Subject and Topics: The multiple choice questions or MCQs from five disciplines, including child development and pedagogy, mathematics, environmental studies, language I and language II, are included in the CTET paper 1.

In contrast, paper 2 includes four subjects: social studies/social sciences, mathematics, child development and pedagogy, language I and II.

The topics covered in the NCERT syllabus for classes 1 through 5 will be the basis for the questions in the test for paper 1, however, the level of complexity and connections may reach the secondary stage.

The difficulty level of the topics listed in the NCERT syllabus for grades 6 through 8 could reach the senior secondary level for paper 2

CBSE CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 syllabus: Paper 1 will continue for two-and-a-half-hour and will consist of subjects like – child development and pedagogy, Language 1 (Compulsory), Language 2 (Compulsory), mathematics and environmental studies.

Paper 2 will consist of child development and pedagogy, Language 1 and Language 2 which will be compulsory. Apart from that, mathematics and social studies/sciences paper will be taken by those who will have opted likewise.

Also, as CBSE has modified the eligibility criteria, as per which, B.Ed candidates will now be eligible to apply for Paper-I as well (read both papers), interested candidates can make the changes once the Online Correction Process window is made available from 6th to 15th September 2024. CTET 2024 examination comprises of two papers viz Paper-II – 9:30 am to 12 pm (Classes VI to VIII) and Paper-I – 2 pm to 4:30 pm (Classes I to V).

A candidate needs a minimum 60% to become CTET Qualified and the certificate is valid for a period of seven years. CTET 2024 qualified candidates become eligible to apply for teacher recruitment as and when it happens for Class I to VIII in schools that come under the purview of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc) and schools under the administrative control of UTs of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and NCT of Delhi

CTET 2024 Eligibility Criteria Modified: CTET 2024 Eligibility Criteria has been modified by the CBSE upon receiving clarification from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). A Corrigendum has been released on the official website of Central Teacher Eligibility Test – ctet.nic.in, stating the modified Point 6.1 of the Information Bulletin of CTET-2024.As per the amendment, candidates who are B.Ed qualified and have applied for Paper-II can now apply for Paper-I as well.

CBSE is scheduled to organize the 11th Edition of Central Teacher Eligibility Test i.e. CTET 2024 in two slots viz Paper-II – 9:30 am to 12:00 pm and Paper-I – 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, for candidates aspiring to serve as teachers for Class I to VIII in schools that come under the purview of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc) and schools under the administrative control of UTs of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and NCT of Delhi..

FAQs on CTET​

  1. How many times CTET exam would be conducted in a year?​


    The CTET is being conducted twice in a year. CTET would be held July and December.

  2. Is there any limit on a number of attempts for CTET?​


    There is no limit on number of attempts for CTET. Candidates can appear for CTET as many times as they want.

  3. Is there any age limit to appear for CTET exam?​


    There is no age limit to appear for CTET.

    There is no negative marking for CTET exam. Candidates will be one mark for every correct answer in the exam.

  5. When will be the CTET exam held?​

  6. What is the Central TET exam pattern?​


    The CTET is 2.5 hours long and the candidates can choose to attempt the papers in either English or Hindi. All 150 questions in the exam will be multiple choice questions (MCQs), having four options. There will be no negative marking, and each correct answer carries one mark. There are two papers in the CTET test: paper 1 for candidates who want to teach students in classes 1 to 5 and paper 2 for those who want to teach students in grades 6 to 8. Candidates must appear in both exams (papers I and II) if they want to teach at both levels.

    Paper timing and duration:
    PAPER-II: 09.30 AM TO 12.00 PM 2.30 HOURS

    CTET eligibility is mandatory for candidates aspiring for central school teaching jobs as well as jobs with JNV or KVs. Some states also accept CTET in terms of the mandatory TET qualifier for teachings jobs at state level institutes.

    CTET Admit Cards: The candidates may download Admit Card from CTET official website and appear for the examination at the given Centre. In case of any discrepancy noticed in admit card regarding particulars of candidate, photograph and signature or any other information vary from the confirmation page, he/she may immediately contact CTET unit for necessary corrections.

    In case confirmation page is not generated after depositing the requisite fees, the candidate should approach the Assistant Secretary (Exam.), CTET Unit, CBSE between 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. from 10 days before the commencement of CTET Exam along with CTET 2024 proof of payment of fee i.e. candidate copy of E-Challan, if payment made through E Challan or copy of bank statement, if payment made through Credit/Debit Card for considering his/her candidature for CTET 2024 examination.

    The candidates shall report at the Examination Centre 90 minutes before the commencement of the examination. Candidate report at the examination centre after 9:30 AM shall not be allowed to sit in Paper II and candidate report after 2:00 PM shall not be allowed to sit in Paper I.
