Certificate Validity, NCTE has extended Teacher Eligibility Test certificate validity for lifetime. National Council for Teacher Education, NCTE has extended CTET & TET certificate validity for a lifetime now.

Earlier the validity for these certificates was till 7 years from the date of issue. The decision to extend the validity was taken during the 50th Meeting of the NCTE’s General Body that was held on September 29. Among several issues discussed by the Commission in the meeting, this was one of the major topics.

TET Certificate Validity is Life Time​


Validity period of Teachers Eligibility Test qualifying certificate extended from 7 years to lifetime. Union Education Minister announced that Government has decided to extend the validity period of Teachers Eligibility Test qualifying certificate from 7 years to lifetime with retrospective effect from 2011.

The respective State Govts. /UTs will take necessary action to revalidate/issue fresh TET certificates to those candidates whose period of 7 years has already elapsed. This will be a positive step in increasing the employment opportunities for candidates aspiring to make a career in the teaching field.

Teachers Eligibility Test is one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in schools. The Guidelines dated 11th February 2011 of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) laid down that TET would be conducted by the State Governments and the validity of the TET Certificate was 7 years from the date of passing TET.*

As per the statement released by the Council on October 13 titled ‘Minutes of the 50th Meeting of the General Body of NCTE held on 29th September 2020”, the Council considered the agenda item and approved the validity of the TET certificate changing it from 7 years to the Lifetime.

This provision would have a prospective effect and for those who have already passed out (already having TET certificate), NCTE would take legal action and will act accordingly.

The dates from when this extension would be applicable have not been announced yet. As per reports, the respective states and boards will notify the implementation of such a decision after the NCTE officially notifies the same.

Meanwhile, CTET Exam Dates 2020 has not been released yet. CBSE has said that they will announce the exam dates when it’s conducive to conduct the exams. The examination dates would be available on the official site of CBSE CTET on ctet.nic.in. This year more than 10 lakh students who appear for the CTET examination and the examination will be conducted in 112 cities across the country.

    As per the NCTE Norms, CTET Certificate validity is lifetime. After clearing the CTET once, candidates can seek a job as a teacher at any point in their life. The CTET will now be eligible for the entire lifetime. CTET certification, however, is provided only to those who crack the exam, and about 50% of aspirants, on average, make it through.

    The decision to make CTET mandatory for state government schools is left to the discretion of the respective state governments. Some state governments have made it mandatory, while others have not.

  6. Is there any limit to the number of attempts for CTET?​


    No, there is no limit to the number of attempts for CTET. A candidate can appear for CTET as many times as they want, but they will have to meet the eligibility criteria and apply for the exam every time.

  7. What is the process for obtaining a CTET certificate?​


    To obtain a CTET certificate, a candidate must qualify in the CTET exam with the minimum qualifying marks specified by the CBSE. After the declaration of the CTET result, the candidate can download their CTET certificate from the official website of the CBSE.

  8. Is the CTET certificate transferable to other states?​


    Yes, the CTET certificate is transferable to other states, as it is a nationally recognized qualification. However, the candidate will have to meet the eligibility criteria specified by the respective state government to apply for teaching positions in that state.

  9. What happens if a candidate loses their CTET certificate?​


    If a candidate loses their CTET certificate, they can obtain a duplicate copy of the certificate by paying a nominal fee and submitting an application to the CBSE.



  1. CTET Qualifying Marks & Certificate Validity. The CTET examination is scheduled to be conducted on July 7, 2020. The CTET shall apply to schools of the central government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.) and schools under the administrative control of all the UTs.

    The validity period of CTET qualifying certificate is for seven years from the date of declaration of its result.     CTET Exam pattern​


    Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be asked and four alternatives will be provided to the candidates. There will be no negative marking.

    Paper 1: For those who want to teach Class 1 to 5.
    Paper 2: For those who want to teach Class 6 to 8.

    Those who want to teach at both the levels will have to appear for both these papers.

    The candidates need to follow NCERT books as the questions will be based on the syllabus for classes 1 to 5. However, the difficulty standard as well as linkages could be up to the secondary stage. The main question paper will be Bilingual (Hindi/English).

    Qualifying marks for CTET​


    A person who scores 60 per cent or more in the exam will be considered as TET pass. Those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category will be provided relaxation up to 5 per cent in the qualifying marks in the minimum educational qualification. The validity of CTET qualifying certificate will be seven years from the date of declaration of its result.

    It is advised that candidates need to follow NCERT books as the questions will be based on syllabus for classes 1 to 5.

    CTET Structure and Content of Syllabus for Paper I

    CTET Paper I is for Classes 1 to 5 or Primary Stage. The paper would consist of 30 questions from child development and pedagogy, 30 questions from Language 1 and 30 for language 2. Mathematics and EVS would have 30 questions each. The further break up and content for Paper I sections is provided below.

    Child Development and Pedagogy would have three sections. 15 questions would be from Child Development (Primary School Child), 5 questions from ‘Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs’ and 10 questions from learning and pedagogy.

    Language I and II

    Section 2 and 3 would be language I and II. There would be a total of 30 questions of which 15 questions would be on language comprehension with unseen passages.

    The passages would have one prose or drama. 15 questions would be from pedagogy of language development.

    Pedagogy includes topics like principles of language teaching, learning and acquisition, Challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors and disorders, language skills, etc.

    Mathematics and EVS

    These two sections would have 30 questions each out of which, 15 questions would be based on content and 15 from pedagogy. The content for Mathematics would include the syllabus/ curriculum till secondary school level including Geometry, Shapes & Spatial Understanding,

    Solids around Us, Numbers, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Measurement, Weight, Time, Volume, Data Handling, Patterns and Money. For EVS, the content would include Family and Friends, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel and Things We Make and Do.
