The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has announced the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awards for 2022, which will be given to 12 young scientists in India. The recipients include immunologist Dipyaman Ganguli, astrophysicist Kanak Saha, and researcher Kanishka Biswas. The awards are given to scientists under the age of 45 and come with a cash prize of Rs five lakh and a citation. This announcement comes amid controversy over the government's plans to reduce National Science Awards. The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize is usually announced on CSIR's foundation day on September 26.
