A Mumbai court will pronounce on October 10, the quantum of sentence for artist Chintan Upadhyay and three others, who were convicted in the double murder case of his estranged wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani.

Earlier on October 5, Additional Sessions Judge SY Bhosale of Mumbai had convicted Upadhyay, Shiv Kumar Rajbhar, Pradip Kumar Rajbhar and Vijay Kumar Rajbhar in the eight-old-old case.

As per the prosecution, Hema and Bhambani were allegedly smothered to death by Vidhyadhar Rajbhar on December 11, 2015, with the help of other accused, at the behest of Chintan Upadhyay.

A garbage collector discovered their bodies stuffed in cardboard boxes on December 12, 2015 in a nullah at Kandivali.

The artist was arrested on December 22, 2015. All others, except Vidhyadhar, were arrested later. Vidhyadhar is still absconding.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Chintan on September 17, 2021.
