The Chhattisgarh High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of a news article highlighting the negligence and inefficiency of the Railways.

The news report, published on December 25, 2024, revealed that padded seats meant for trains were being misused by railway employees and placed over drains, posing a threat to road safety and hygiene.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal considered the matter serious and directed the South Eastern Central Railway (SECR) to file a personal affidavit regarding the news report.

The affidavit is expected to address the allegations of negligence and inefficiency within the Railway Department.

The court has listed the matter for further hearing on January 13, 2025.
