Chhattisgarh High Court disposes of PIL on consumer rights bodies

The Chhattisgarh High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a direction to the respondent/State to immediately fill vacant posts of president and members of District Consumer Commissions for various districts in Chhattisgarh.

The PIL has been filed by Sarguja Society for Fast Justice.

Advocate General S.C. Verma has brought order dated 12/04/2023 passed by the State Government whereby Chooramandas, Member of District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Koriya Baikunthpur has temporarily been attached as Member of District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Sarguja Ambikapur.

Moreover, he assures the Court that soon a permanent member would also be appointed in accordance with law.

In view of the aforesaid statement made by the Advocate General as well as the order dated 12/4/2023 passed by the State Government, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal disposed of the petition.
