2 Ministry of Jal Shakti released the sixth census report of minor irrigation schemes
The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti released the Sixth Census Report on Minor Irrigation Schemes . According to this report, 23.14 million minor irrigation (MI) schemes are reported in the country, of which 21.93 million (94.8%) are ground water (GW) and 1.21 million (5.2%) surface water (SW) schemes. Uttar Pradesh has the largest number of minor irrigation schemes in the country, followed by Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The leading states in groundwater schemes are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and Jharkhand have the largest share of surface water schemes. Ground water schemes include dug wells, shallow tubewells, medium tubewells and deep tubewells. Surface water schemes include surface flow and surface lift schemes.
3 REC to provide loan to Damodar Valley Corporation to set up 1,320 MW thermal power project at Raghunathpur in West Bengal
REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power , has entered into an agreement with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) . Under this, REC will provide a loan of Rs 4,527.68 crore to DVC for setting up a 1,320 MW thermal power project (2×660 MW) at Raghunathpur in West Bengal. The Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II project, a collaborative effort between REC and DVC, will contribute significantly to the power generation capacity in West Bengal. With a combined capacity of 1,320 MW, the project is a significant milestone in the energy landscape of the region.

5 National Judicial Data Grid
Recently, the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) drew attention to its pivotal role in revolutionizing the way judicial proceedings are managed in India . NJDG is a database of orders, judgments and case details of 18,735 District and Subordinate Courts and High Courts which has been set up as an online platform under the e-Courts project . The data is updated by the connected District and Taluka Courts on near real time basis. It provides data related to judicial proceedings/judgments of all computerized district and subordinate courts in the country. All High Courts have also joined NJDG through web services, thereby facilitating easy access to public defendants.

India has handed over the chairmanship of B-20 i.e. Business 20 to Brazil to host the G-20 in 2024 . B-20 India President N Chandrasekaran has said that under India’s G-20 chairmanship Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in its B-20 chairmanship The work was done according to the theme. He said that more than one thousand five hundred global business representatives and experts from 55 countries are participating in the B-20 meeting. Shri Chandrasekaran said that during this period nine important themes were worked out which include women and youth empowerment, transition to artificial intelligence, building global resilient supply chains and financing global economic reforms. He said that India’s B20 chairmanship has been recognized for its effective process, participation and consensus building in formulating 54 policy recommendations in the last nine months.

8 Deendayal Port Authority signs concession agreement with DP World
Deendayal Port Authority signed the Concession Agreement with DP World in the presence of Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi . Mega container terminal will be constructed near the existing Deendayal port at Tuna -Tekra in Gujarat under public-private partnership at a cost of more than Rs 4,243 crore . The agreement is part of a target to explore investment potential of over Rs 10 lakh crore in the Indian maritime sector ahead of the Global Maritime Summit 2023.

During the meeting, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis reviewed the progress of three important ongoing agreements between India and the European Union. Among these agreements, the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement , Investment Protection Agreement and Geographical Indication Agreement Are included. Both sides expressed satisfaction at the progress made on these agreements. Both sides discussed in detail the issues relating to market access under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council. Along with this, issues related to the 13th meeting of the World Trade Organization Group of Ministers were also discussed. This meeting will be held in Abu Dhabi in February next year.

13 5th edition of OSINDEX-23 organized in Sydney
The 5th edition of the biennial Oceanindex maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was conducted from 22-25 August 2023 at Sydney , Australia . INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata from RAN participated in the exercise along with HMAS Chaules and HMAS Brisbane. Apart from the ships and their integral helicopters, the exercise also saw the participation of fighter aircraft and maritime patrol aircraft.
